4003 (412th TW, 411th FTS) crossed the wake of an F-16 target
aircraft during air-to-air tracking test mission from
Edwards AFB Sep 28, 2004 and commenced an unexpected rapid
pitch oscillation which quickly exceeded the set limits for both
g-force and angle of attack. The system overrode all pilot
imput and brought the aircraft under control and it returned
safely to Edwards. Repairs estimated at $3.6 million.
Restored and put on display at USAF Museum Jan 2008
