Had my canopy off today to do some work behind the panel. I accidentally
leaned against the panel and it slammed down. I powered up and everything
works except for the CAI302. The display turns on and, IIRC, the needle
swung, but it never got beyond the second screen, the one which displays a
number at the top and the firmware version at the bottom.

The wind got pretty strong today at Moriarty so I put it back in the
trailer. My plan for tomorrow is to disconnect everything and reconnect
thinking that a connector or wire might have come loose. There's no
indication of damage by looking at the screen. Any suggestions?

Unplug the OAT sensor and try again.

Thanks, Guys, you've given me hope. It was just a bit over a year ago that,
in flight, the needle fell off the bloody thing and I had to send it off.
It didn't fall off this time.

Thanks Guys! Simply removing and reseating the OAT sensor plug did the
trick.

Oh, and yeah... My remotely mounted meat thermometer is also great! At
16,800' MSL, the temperature was 8 deg F. Now I'm sure I know the reason my
feet were cold!

According to my XCSoar program, one of the thermals I entered registered
17.5 kts! Of course, my average was only in the 11+ range. The season is
really getting going here in New Mexico.

I sort of remember the temperature probe can cause funny stuff if it's
not plugged in correctly or is damaged. Make sure it's secure; if that
doesn't work, try unplugging it.

The technician at Cambridge has been helpful in the past when I had a
problem.

As I reported the other day, it was, in fact, the probe. It must have
gotten jarred loose when the panel slammed down. Simply unplugging and
plugging it back in fixed the problem. I'll file that one away for future
reference.

For those that keep odd 302 facts in a file somewhere....

Over the winter I took my instrument panel home to putter. About 3 months later I turned on the unit and found the the 302 would cycle its start up tones over and over again for minutes before getting to the "set pressure" screen. I ultimately found that it had to do with the GPS. I had cleared the memory on the 302 which, I assume, also cleared the last know GPS location. So the 302 had to start from scratch to find satellites and get a fix.... plus I was indoors at the time. Once outside and a fix was made, startup now happens normally.
