AAL 489 Low-Fuel Track Plot by
Sam Spade
The old thread is so long I am starting a new one with the approximately
flight track of AAL 489 plotted on the Dallas Sectional.
http://tinyurl.com/ywc9vj
The newscaster stated that he was approximately 10 miles north of the
town of Bonham when he declared his emergency. This would be on the...

Garmin 430W/530W first impressions by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Rode back with my friend in his turbine Bonanza after the installation of a
530W/430W. We had a good chance to play with both boxes during the trip. As
before, they are very intuitive and relatively easy to operate.
The screen write rate is a lot faster than previously, and the plane
position...

Flight planning software minimization algorithm by
Andrew Sarangan
Most of the software out there will compute a flight based on the
user's route, time of departure and altitude. This is a fairly
straight forward task which could be done without a computer, as has
been the case for decades.
What I am looking for is the reverse. Given a destination, aircraft
type...

TKM MC-60 indicator install question by

Anybody know of a shop in the New England region that has experience
installing these indicators? Our usual local shop hasn't and evidently
there's a bit of learning curve. Thanks.

IF labeling on approach charts by
kevmor
I noticed that on some approaches there are fixes labeled IF
(Intermediate Fix), such as FONTS INT in http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0702/00664IL14.PDF
where there is a cross radial, but other approaches such as EJAAY in
http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0702/05850I15.PDF isn't labeled as an IF. I
looked it up...

Airline flight plans by
paul kgyy
I took an AA flight from SAN to ORD Tuesday that looped up through
Utah and Wyoming, maybe to catch strong upper winds. But I got to
wondering how airline flight plans get planned. Does the pilot do
this, or the airline?
I presume that ATC overrides theirs as they do mine from time to...

Instrument Rating tests by
kevmor
I understand it as the IRA (Instrument Rating Airplane) and FII
(Flight Instructor Instrument) tests come from the same question
bank. Does the FII test expire like the IRA does? I didn't see it in
part 61 unless I'm missing something. To me, it seems like none of
the tests expire for CFI?

The REAL reason for record delays are...

Realistic Instrument Training using MSFS 2004 by
[email protected]
Hi All,
I'm a longtime lurker here, but now I have a question I hope the group
can help me with. I am working toward my instrument rating (21 hours
so far), and want to use MSFS to practice (cheaply). I do fine with
holding a heading, but I find it very difficult to maintain an
altitude. The...

they're out there.

ASA On Top 9? by
Hamish Reid
I realise it's only been released for a few days, but as I'm in the
market for a non-MS sim, and as I have an older version that works just
fine but needs updating so it can do real GPS, etc., does anyone have
anything to say one way or another about ASA's new On Top 9?
Thanks,
Hamish

Flight Following question by
Jim Carter
So far, every time I come out of ROG and request flight following to it
doesn't matter where, I get a discrete squawk that allows departure to
hand me off to Memphis Center, or Dallas, or Kansas City. Coming out of
LIT however I've never been given anything except a local code and then
about 15...

Safety Pilots? by
Wizard of Draws
I rent and fly 172s out of Gainesville, GA (KGVL). I used to fly out of 47A
and had a number of safety pilots available there (too far to be convenient
for them now), but this FBO is fairly new and doesn't have a list put
together yet of pilots that can safety for me.
Anyone know of a good place...

bad vectors, no hand off by
Lurker
Flyers,
I just want some of your thoughts on this. My plane partner and I went out
last night to do some practice instrument approaches. He wore the hood and
I was the right-seat safety pilot.
ATC was not too busy and it was a nice VFR night. First, after we asked for
a practice ILS 24 into...
