The King of Speed: SR-71 Blackbird by

The most memorable SR-71 quote that ever heard was: " This plane knows
when you are looking out of the window "

Birds, Birds, Birds! by
Kyle Boatright
We had two interesting encounters with birds on our back and forth trip from
Atlanta to College Station, TX over the weekend.
The first one occurred when we were about 10 miles south of Easterwood
field, located in College Station. In the distance, I picked up a large
bird at our altitude...

Airplane Pilot's As Physicists by
Le Chaud Lapin
Hi All,
There is a long discussion ongoing in rec.aviation.piloting about what
causes lift on a plane. You can read from the link below. Please
note that about 80% of the post are mostly ad hominem attacks and
should be ignored. There are some small bits of real...

A380 first passenger flight by
S Green
From The Sunday Times
October 21, 2007
A sneak peek at the A380
Anyone with a tenner can join the mile-high club, if they're prepared to
fool around in a low-cost airline's smallest room. But this week we found
out the price of doing it in style: about £4,000.
That's what it costs (for two) to...

Flying in TFR by
Andrew Sarangan
There is a presidential TFR in Cincinnati on Monday, right smack in
the middle of my planned flight route. The notam says the inner 10
mile radius is a no-fly zone, and the outer 10-30 miles radius can be
flown with an active VFR or IFR flight plan. I always thought TFR was
restricted entirely,...

Is Bowing Competent For NextGen ATC? by
Larry Dighera
Four months late due to software integration and other issues:
Republicans and Democrats criticized BOEING CO. (BA) and the
Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday for a belated,
glitch-plagued security pilot program being set up along 28
miles of the Arizona-Mexico...

Saint Alphonsus Liguori on 6-20-00 by

Saint Alphonsus Liguori says,
"Each human life, in being given a
Soul, connects the Soul to The Divine in a
manner, way that is obvious, and yet
cannot be seen, because the Soul makes
the individual think on a higher plane,
of the importance of human life, and that
it is the only living matter that...

My normal landings are clunkers, but... by
Paul kgyy
not, to date, anything this bad. From Chicago Tribune:
"A "firm landing" of a United Airlines plane Tuesday evening at O'Hare
Airport sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries, a United
spokesman said.
The individuals injured in the 8:30 p.m. landing were a passenger and
a flight...

TFR Question by
Kyle Boatright
I flew into College Station, Texas on Saturday for the Texas A&M/Kansas
football game. When I spoke with the preflight briefer, he informed me that
the TFR around the game would close the local airfield from 1 hour before to
1 hour after the game.
I have no idea how that played out, but I know...

Wind - Sometimes you win, usually, you lose by
Kyle Boatright
We're headed from Atlanta to Houston tomorrow and the winds will be pretty
strong right in our face. The usual W- E flow is compounded tomorrow by a
low in the Memphis area, causing a much stronger than usual flow from the
SW. Despite all that, it looks like we can keep the headwind component...
