Finnish Aeronautical Engineering Abbreviations by
Ron Wanttaja
I received a package that includes the original Finnish report for the
FAR-23-like load testing of a Fly Baby in 1977. At that time, the Finnish
National Board of Aviation required formal testing of homebuilts just like
production aircraft.
Fortunately, the package includes a translation into...

Logic behind day VFR by
Dillon Pyron
I'm looking at this from a newbie's point of view.
Why build day VFR? Not so much of a question of why not IFR, I can
understand that. But why day only? Is it just that much simpler to
build? In many areas (I learned to fly in the LA basin, Torrance)
lights are almost a neccesity.
Just...

Making my landing gear by

Can anyone tell me where to find information on making fixed tri-gear?
There seems to be a bit on the main gear, but nothing on making a nose

Learning to weld with a non-aircraft project by
Ed
Eventually I plan to build a tube-n-fabric aircraft, but now isn't the time.
However, I would like to start developing the skills that I will need.
I've been looking at kids playsets for our yard. Most of them are made from
redwood, and are quite expensive. Several thousand dollars for the...

Will this hanging shape produce lift? by
Joel Price
Dear Group,
Dear Group,
I am developing a light weight product that will be hanging outside
and wanted to ask your collective wisdom about wind effects on it's
shape. It is approximately 30 (28 on shorter surface) x 40 x 2
inches. It has a symmetrical shape (with respect to leading and
trailing...

EAA Hangar Purchase by
Kyle Boatright
Anyone got stories to share (good or bad) about EAA chapters purchasing
hangars? Our chapter has been offered the right of first refusal on a
hangar at the local field and I'm trying to figure out if there is any way
to make it work. Long story short, the chapter would have to lease the
hangar to...

Carying *stuff* as Sun n' Fun by

I've never had the opportunity to make Sun n' Fun yet. I was

Horsepower required for level flight question... by
BllFs6
Hi all...
Was reading about a glider the other day....
It has something like a sink rate of 125 feet per minute at a 400 pound total
wieght when its going about 35 mph...
Now given that 1foot pound/sec = .00182 HP and the glider is being powered by
gravity....

503 DCDI still won't cut off by
Tracy
I attached two wires directly to the mag kill wires, a third wire
bolted straight to the engine itself for ground.
Then I started the plane and rev'd it up to 5,000 without warm up and
hooked the wires together and it cut off, then I let it warm up for
two minutes at 2,000, hooked the wires up at...

Poppers Revisted and the Return of the Teenie Two by
Veeduber
What's a rivet?
Silly question, right? Everyone knows rivets are those little metal jobbies
that hold things together.
An even sillier question is ‘Why do you want to hold things together?' (Boy!
Talk about dumb, eh? ) Because we don't want them to fall apart, that's why!
‘Why would they...
