Can we be more than Glider Pilots…? by

Can we be more than Glider Pilots…?
I just watched the news.
The World seems to be going to s###, with this great

it all just hype? Do I express many peoples concerns?
Or am I alone in thinking this? Maybe I’m just new
to this part of the...

Drop the Tow Rope by
Ray Lovinggood
Stewart asked why some operations drop the tow rope.
We do because of two reasons:
1. We want to reduce wear and tear on the rope by
not dragging it on the paved runway. Yes, the tuggie
does drop the rope onto the paved runway, but that
doesn't seem to cause undue wear and tear.
2. Sometimes...

Thermal Mapping by
Chris Davison
Does anyone have any experience or interest in mapping
thermals, finding hotspots etc, via software like Winpilot.
My first attempt, based on 600 igc files (!) has revealed
there are a lot of thermals out there...but I'm struggling
to derive any information from the data. What I'd
like to end up...

petition asks the repack cycle be changed from 120 days to 180 days, a
worthwhile improvement, I think. To view the petition and the FAA's
response, go...

Photos from Wednesday's photo mission. I flew formation
with Clayton Stansell's Cessna 175 for about 35 minutes.
The twin AT-450's only required about 50% thrust to
keep the sailplane in the formation at 80 MPH indicated
(about 92 MPH true) at 7000' MSL. Photos by Bill Pearson
