Bug Smashing by Dallas
Can anyone explain bug smashing? I can drive my car around for a month, often at 80 mph on the freeways and maybe get two or three bugs on the windshield. Yet an airplane has every leading edge covered in layer of dried bug in a matter of days. Wouldn't you think there wouldn't be any bugs up...

"Braking Action: Nil" by Jay Honeck
That was the NOTAM for all of our local airports yesterday. With the winds gusting to 20 knots, at a 60 degree crosswind, the thought of landing on ice-covered runways sounded like...fun! But then, we live in the Upper Midwest, so we're a bit odd that way... ;-) Off to the airport we went --...

Cessna sued for skydiving accident. by [email protected]
What the?!?! This is exactly the kind of sensationalism that whuffos like to push. If this would have been recreational golfers returning from a weekend away, would this have been a golfing accident?

Pilots are, indeed, rare... by Jay Honeck
Here is the answer (well, closer than a guess) to my questions about pilots: See: http://www.prb.org/Articles/2002/HowManyPeopleHaveEverLivedonEarth.aspx Using these numbers (through 2002) the best estimate is that 106 billion humans have ever lived on this planet. If we use the estimate of 5...

Let's get high. by Dan Luke
Took the airplane up to 16.5K today to see what she'd do and have my first experience sucking oxygen. It is truly satisfying to sit back and watch the airplane hold 800 FPM all the way up. Performance was a bit better than book: 164 KTAS at 27" and 2400 RPM, 14.6 GPH, 50 deg. ROP. I'm in love...
