14 y/o Female Solo Yesterday by
Brian Iten
Thought I would put a not on the site to say congratulations
to Christa Keizer for making her first solo flight
yesterday in an AS-K21 out at Caracole Soaring in California
City. There were several friends along with her proud
father, Alan, attending. She made a 30 minute flight
and a perfect two...

winglets for LS-1 by
Brad
A friend of mine is considering installing winglets on his LS-1C. Has
anyone ever seen or heard of an LS-1 with winglets? Is there a
retro-fit installation for winglets available? I know that the Libelle
has a winglet kit, so perhaps the LS-1 has one too.
Cheers,
Brad

Spratt Report by
Karl Striedieck
The venerable bionic gate/CD/author Charlie Spratt was in the hospital a
couple times over the last few weeks, but seems to have weathered these
additional medical inconveniences with no loss of spirit or capabilities.
He had lens implants for cataracts and can now see well enough to start...

SSA 2018 Rules Finish Penalty by
[email protected]
Folks,
Please share your opinions with the rules committee before January 10. Here is my feedback:
Hank,
Happy New Year.
The 2018 rules changes look good with the exception of the finish penalty which is only a minor improvement over the previous -200ft land-out scenario from a competition...

the program to the web for me to download?

Rigging Question by
Robert Fidler[_2_]
My glider requires a small amount of top rudder to keep coordinated in
a left turn. A right turn seems to require the appropriate amount of
right rudder. The glider flies straight and level ok with maybe a
minor amount of right aileron and left rudder. Wing incidence is close
(.1 of a degree)...

Sustainer engine ignition noise (Solo2350) by
Per
Having a Solo 2350 on a Ventus 2cT, I've been annoyed that when it runs it
constantly triggers the squelsh of the VHF-radio. (No, raising the trigger
level doesn't do the trick)
It is possible to use the radio with the squelsh turned off and using a
headset. This makes the noiselevel even...

Matt Herron Jr.
Just wondering if you could share any lessons learned before I do
this. Zaon sells an extension kit for the antenna, and a panel mount
kit ( http://www.zaon.aero/content/view/2/41/ ) Any antenna mounting
dos and don't for this device? Can I put it next to the transponder

I hooked up reed sensors from my spoilers and landing gear to the S80 expecting to get voice warning but it isn't working. I know it is hooked up right because the hardware page displays the sensed positions. Gear up = red, gear down = green. Spoilers retracted = green, Spoilers open = red. ...

Jet Arcus first soaring flight by
[email protected]
On October 14, 1947, Chuck Yeager broke the Sound Barrier, ushering in the age of supersonic flight. Sixty-nine years later, on the same day, Dennis Tito's jet-powered Arcus demonstrated the beginnings of a new era in auxiliary powered soaring flight.
Launching from Inyokern, CA at sunrise, Dennis...

Glider Wings on a 747? by
JohnDeRosa
I was asked last night "Why don't commercial airliners (747, A380,
etc) have 'super wings' like gliders?" I mumbled something semi-
coherent but didn't really know the correct answer.
So, would high aspect ratio and highly efficient glider-like wings
enhance fuel economy for all airplanes? What...

trailer sway by
[email protected]
Howdy -
I know this topic has come up before, but we're searching for the
latest theories:
We're towing a DG-500M in a Cobra trailer, and it has a definite sway,
fortunately it usually damps fairly well. Life was worse with a strong
crosswind. We had 2 thoughts:
1. tonuge weight - are we...
