Part numbers for Grob 103 seat belts by
[email protected]
I am trying to get the seatbelts in our club Grob 103 (Twin II) rebuilt to save some money over buying new ones. Unfortunately, the tags are worn and unreadable. I need that part number so the seat belt shop can recertify.. Does anybody have a parts manual or can you look at the belts in your...

Soaring pants. Yes, pants. by
Auxvache
I have a headache after shopping online for new pants to wear in the cockpit. R.A.S. never lets me down, so...
Anyone know which company makes lightweight cargo pants that have zippered front/side pockets (so the cell phone stays in if you bail out), and a zippered fly (relief system-friendly)? ...

Come one, come all! For the duration of the SSA convention, I will
reduce the price of my LAK-17a by 5%. I need to make room in the

Moriarty, NM and have a look!

Thank You by
[email protected]
As an old fart who has returned to soaring after many years hiatus, I want to thank all you guys for your posts. The info shared here (with proper BS filtering of course) has been indispensable in helping me to get up to speed with the modern soaring scene.
My experience harkens back to the 70's...

MacCready by
Jim White[_3_]
Reading the thread on dolphin technique brings to mind some work I did on
MacCready. If you do the sums in an 'ideal' flight with one climb and one
glide in flat air you find two things:
1) You can be well of the ideal MacCready speed (10%) before it makes much
difference in XC speed, and
2)...

Netto variometer by
[email protected]
I wonder if netto variometers exist that indicate correctly during turning?
In theory you could approximate the drag polar with induced and parasitic drag. I am wondering if devices exist that do that and compensate for the higher g factor during circling.

Weather forecasting experts at SSA Convention by
SF
I checked, both of these guys live more than 100 miles away from Greenville, that makes them experts by definition.
Seriously, these guys really know their stuff. And they actually do try to predict the future on a regular basis, I'll make sure they go to the Future of racing session to help...

Standardization in Slack Rope Recovery? by
LongJourney
Most of us have had the inevitable frustration of being told to do something one way with one instructor, only to be told to do it differently when flying with another instructor. There are, of course, multiple ways of performing certain maneuvers, and slack rope recovery is one of those. I would...

Nephi, UT just got a tow plane from April - Aug! by
[email protected]
Nephi is one of the hottest soaring destinations in the west (and for good reason), but up until now, we have only had tow options during organized events. We have finally been able to secure a strong 182 to tow up gliders from mid-April into August if we can just get enough glider pilots to come...

Hopefully Darryl will respond to this but anyone with the knowledge will
be appreciated.
I have a home-grown ADS-B system consisting of a Raspberry Pi 2 and a
couple of software defined radios feeding Avare on my smart phone. I

Handicap Distance Tasks by
Jim White[_3_]
I have been following the arguments about Flarm as well as US task setting
with interest. I do not wish to confuse the picture further but I do want
to point out that Handicap Distance Tasks solve many of the complaints
about standard assigned tasks (including leeching).
With HDTs we recognise the...

Mounting Stuff on the Canopy or Glare Screen - Safe? by
Six-Seven Romeo
I am in the midst of an instrument panel refit on a Standard Cirrus that will include a PowerFLARM core. The mount of the FLARM antennas is always a lifely subject here on RAS. I have read and absorbed the very instructive FLARM antenna placement application note.
Anyway, someone mentioned to me...

Use of drag chutes by
JS
The accidents in Namibia which totaled gliders and claimed a life deserve more respect than that offered by our friend "Fred Drift".
Hey, it's fun to land with a drag chute. I regret never trying ASW17B 15 meter drag chute landings. At 20m it was huge fun.
