missing gps fixes after upload by
charlie foxtrot
After uploading my latest flight to the OLC, the server told me that
the file was invalid due to a large time gap between GPS fixes. Both
my secure *.cai and *.igc files show no such gap; it only appears on
the OLC trace. I've sent an e-mail to the OLC to see what they think,
but I'm curious to...

Interesting new approach to collision avoidance assistance by
John Scott
Here is a device that assist with collision avoidance and does not require
any cooperation from the other aircraft:
http://www.fosterflight.com/
After reading the FAQs, it does not appear it will be readily applicable to
gliders since in it's current form, it only is effective in level...

Discus B speeds to fly by
Nyal Williams
A couple of years ago someone mentioned on this site a list of maximum
efficient speeds based on total weights for the Discus B. I believe
this info was from a club in the UK. I got a copy of that data, but
didn't back it up. A fried hard drive on a new computer toasted it.
Can anyone lead me to...

Making a Glider Easier to See in the Air by
ContestID67
I live in a fairly busy area, airplane wise. Just last weekend I
spotted a single engine plane coming more or less straight at me at my
altitude. I quickly banked to 1) get out of the way and 2) be more
visible to the approaching airplane. I didn't notice any reaction so I
don't know if he saw...

Best soaring - is there any doubt? by
Mitch
If you look at the OLC scores from yesterday (1 May) you will see 1050,
945, and 800 KM flights out of Moriarty NM on the first of May. The
Albuquerque Soaring club blows the competition away every year in the
OLC because of consistant year-round soaring with wave in the winter
and great thermals...
