ROP masking of engine problems by
Roger Long
Word was just getting around about a year ago that it is possible to run
some carbureted engines lean of peak. It was discovered that using carb heat
would improve the mixture distribution.
I had a lot of time early in the year to look into this because our O320
H2AD was apart due to premature...

The cost of war by
Jay Honeck
Do you even know what the definition of Fascism is? Do you realize how
oxymoronic using the phrase "Islamo-Fascist" makes you appear?
Actually, that wonderfully descriptive term was coined (or, at least,
repeated here) by this group's very own Don Tabor, DDS.
I think is quite nicely sums up...

Choices... by

I'm looking at two older Cessna 182's. Both are the same year, both have
roughly the same radios, both are in roughly the same condition, both are
asking about the same price, except for the following:
1) Plane A has a newly overhauled engine, some hail damage, and newer gyros
2) Plane B has...

Wax by
zatatime
What type of wax do you use on your airplane? I'd like to stay away
from the standard "carnuba" type waxes because its a royal pain to
buff around all the rivets (its a Cherokee). Any one step polishes
out there that don't require the second buffing step?
This plane has not been waxed in at...

Garmin 430 VOR reception by
Maik
Hi!
I have a SL30 and a GNS 430 in my plane. They use the same antenna via a
splitter.
When I dial in the same VOR in both units the SL30 catches up the
radials always between 20 and 50 nautical miles earlier than the GNS
430! (Altitude about 3000 ft, flat area)
Is this normal?
What is your...

In reading the "what oil do you use" thread, a question arose.
What do the letters/numbers after the O 360 mean?
There have been A2B, A3A,A4A,A4M,A1B6 And C1E6 listed.
The curious want to know.

Repairing Fiberglass Wheel Pants -- Results by
Jay Honeck
Okay, here's the final tale of the tape:
(These are GPS ground speeds, verified either in absolutely calm air or in
two directions. Probably not a 100% perfect method, but close...)
Without fancy pants: 136 knots at 23 squared.
With repaired fancy pants: 143 knots at 23 squared.
This is a 5%...

Repairing Fiberglass Wheel Pants, Part II by
Jay Honeck
I stopped by the shop this morning, to see how the wheel pants were
coming along.
What a difference! All of the wowed-out holes have been backed with
aluminum that has been riveted to the old fiberglass, and then
fiberglassed and filled over and around. High stress areas have been
reinforced, and...

AOPA financial support for Bush? by

presidential candidate and was told that AOPA had already supported George W
Bush through political contributions. I can find nothing to back up...

groups. It appears...

I miscalculated my health benefits. I expected to have to pay cash for

signficant surplus in my healthcare flexible spending account that I
must spend by the end...

At Reno, all the Formula One and Sport class racers had every single

Which got me to thinking, there are LOTS of non-aerodynamic gaps on my

Impulse Coupling on Magneto by
Kai Glaesner
Hello community,
I have a question I think some of you may be able answer: in most(?)
reciprocating engine installations, the left magneto seems to have a impulse
coupling, enabling the magneto to produce a spark strong enough for ignition
even at low (starter cranking) RPM's.
The question: does...

turbo stc? by

Has anyone heard of either a turbo or supercharger STC for an IO-360?
In particular, an IO-360-A2B?
It seems that there would be a HUGE market for a turbo upgrade.

Low oil pressure, high oil temp? by
Roy Smith
This spring, my club bought a 1973 200 HP Arrow with about 500 hours on
the engine. Shortly after we bought it, we had to replace several
cylinders and one piston (I'm not sure of the details of why they needed
to be replaced).
The oil pressure always indicates at the low end of the green...
