F-4 w/AIM-9 and bombs carriage question by
Guy Alcala
I've been looking through Shlomo Aloni's Osprey book on
Israeli F-4 Phantom aces, and I note that around the time of
the '73 war when they want to carry AIM-9s, they either
1. don't carry any A/G stores on that pylon (when carrying
two AIM-9D/Gs on the shoulder mounts), or
2. only carry a single...

Solomon Islands intervention force by
David Bromage
Does anybody know exactly which units are going to the Solomon Islands?
The Defence media releases haven't contained much detail, other than the
Australian infantry contingent will be from the 3rd Brigade. The
Solomons government did ask for the SAS, but I take it they're not doing.
I know HMAS...

V-1 "aces" by
Cub Driver
For all the talk about Meteors shooting down V-1s, I was amused to see
that there was no Meteor V-1 "ace". (One pilot did manage to account
for four.)
Most of the V-1 aces flew Griffon-engined Spitfire XIIs, Spitfire
XIVs, and Tempest Vs. The other successful aircraft were Mosquitoes
(at night)...

lot of them here."

RAF, RN, et al. and Boscastle flood by
Robert Briggs
There has been a major flood at Boscastle, near Tintagel in Cornwall.
Her Majesty's forces' SAR crews have taken a major part in rescuing
people.
A BBC report starts thus:
'Miracle' no fatalities in flood
It is a miracle no-one appears to have been killed when a

Is replacing Maverick with JCM a good idea? by
Scott Ferrin
The Maverick's warhead is between five and 12 times the size of JCM's
and it's range is higher. That and Raytheon is talking about
extending it to nearly 40 miles with LOAL. Seems like they'd want to
keep it around.

Face the Nation" by
moncler093
Cain appeared on Schieffer's "Face the Nation" program Sunday, and a discussion about the buzz-generating video soon shifted to a lecture by the host about the perils of making smoking look "cool."
Here's the transcript of the exchange:
Schieffer: Mr. Cain, I just have to ask you, what is the point...

Is this scene genuine? by
Prowlus
just found this portrait on the web
http://www.super-mystere.net/aaw/planche/pages/44.htm
it shows what looks like a me-323 being pestered by a RAF B-26
Marauder. So now to bring in question the authenticity of the painting
does anyone here agree that the Marauder in the picture cannot
possibly...

Russian Fighter Book by
Charles Talleyrand
Can someone suggest a nice book on Russian fighters and maybe bombers?
I'm looking for lots of technical detail. Best would be discussions on
why they made the design decisions they chose.

Nazi attempt to match the B-17 by
B2431
During WW2 the Nazis were so impressed by the B-17 they designed their own
version. I think they only built 2. If memory serves it was called the Ou812.
The only known picture of it flying has for some reason shown up on a military
humour...

Do the results of Cope India '04 have the USAF concerned? by
Mike Zaharis
What does everyone make of this?

Specifically, the following passage?
The tone of the conversations was sharpened by a still-unreleased
report about the series of air combat training engagements earlier
this year...
