More on Fuel Management - and an Ethical Dilemma by
Greg Farris
In the June AOPA Pilot "State of General Aviation" issue, Bruce
Landsberg gives a gold star to Cessna, for their new production singles,
which, according to the article, have not suffered a single fuel
mismanagement accident. Well, I know of one near-miss, which could have
broken that record, and...

More KAP 140 questions by
News
I have another KAP 140 question for the group. Is there a way to have a
dual axis w/ pre-select model of the KAP140 act as though it is only a
single axis? Sometimes I want to engage the AP in heading mode but take
care of pitch myself. Engaging the AP in heading mode makes the AP
automatically...

More info on GNS 430/530 WAAS upgrade by
PPT33R
I recently made an inquiry to Garmin regarding their new requirement
that GNS 430/530 owners pre-order the WAAS upgrade prior to November
2005 to guarantee the $1500 price their marketing department has been
stating for the past 2 years...
Keeping in mind the WAAS upgrade for these boxes are...

More IFR with VFR GPS questions by
Chris Quaintance
Hi Folks-
Without descending into the madness of the other thread, I have a
couple of questions regarding the use of a VFR GPS while IFR.
Hypothetically, let's say I was flying IFR from Santa Monica, CA to San
Jose, CA (SMO to RHV). The weather is CAVU. I am filed /A and cleared
via a fairly...

More Garmin Gripes by
Viperdoc
I just installed a GDL69A data link with my 530, which works great. It gives
Nexrad radar as well as graphical METARs, and superimposes the information
on the basic map pages.
It is also supposed to provide text metars, but this will not be available
until "sometime in the future"
Worst, I have...

More fun from France! by
G Farris
VFR this time.
The French Aviation Authority publishes really excellent VFR approach plates.
They are very serious about it - the revision cycles are monthly, and the
level of detail and accuracy is impressive.
Nevertheless, there is one airport I don't really want to fly into.
Something...

More dumb CNX-80 questions -- unloading an approach? by
Roy Smith
This seems to be my week for stupid CNX-80 ****.
Returning to HPN today, I asked for the ILS-34. I punched up PROC, then
selected ILS-34/Vectors and executed it. A little while later, I
decided I wanted to fly the ILS on the #2 NAV, and just monitor my
progress on the CNX-80 by having it...

More ATC Confusion Near Phoenix by

Last week I again experienced ATC confusion near Phoenix.

monitoring China air communication with a radio in Taiwan by
Dan Jacobson
Sitting here in central Taiwan, I bet on my VHF scanner I can hear
flights above China talking to controllers, if they are high enough in
the air. Frequencies to monitor would be Hong Kong 121.3,
Guangzhou=?, Shanghai=?, Xiamen=?, Fuzhou=?. A Google search failed.
I also notice 118-136 Mhz....

Mode S transponder display to ATC? by
paul kgyy
Is it normal practice for a Mode S transponder to display the aircraft
tail number to ATC?
I ask because I thought it did, but recently on flight following the
controller seemed to have difficulty getting my number correct over
the radio.

MOCA and STAR by

Ok, I am trying to brush off some of the rust and getting some
recurrent training.
The task was to plan a flight, KLOU-KLEX-KJVY. (Louisville,KY). So, I
looked up the STAR Clegg2 ( http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0702/00697CLEGG.PDF),
and the charts.
Clegg2 *seems* to make the KLOU-KLEX simple- just...

MOCA and MEA over water??? by
Roy Smith
V139 goes from southern NJ to eastern Long Island, cutting off the corner
of the coastline at New York, heading out about 40 miles over the ocean. I
just happened to notice that it's got MOCA's defined in addition to the
MEA's. The segment between MANTA and PLUME, for example, has a MOCA of
2000....
