Mexican Helicopter MIA -- anybody know the ship/crew? by
Kevin O'Brien
Guys, a Mexican government VIP bird is overdue and presumed down west
of Mexico City in the mountains there. The police minister (in charge
of the Federales and the prisons) is aboard, the craft went missed at
noon Mexico City time (CDT) today.
Anybody know anything?
cheers

PPL(H) Hours 5.9 to 8.4 by
Simon Robbins
Well I'm going to try and do this a bit different. I just got home from the
airport and I'm determined to try and encapsulate my day's flying in writing
*before* I have a hot bath to relieve the aches and pains (and boy do I ache
today) or fall asleep and wipe my memory of the flights. Hopefully...

End Of Spray Season by
[email protected]
Finished the spray season in Minnesota with about 450 hours logged from
June to 20Sept. More than 45,000 acres sprayed without incident. Then
was hired to ferry a Bell 206L3 from northern MN down to Baton Rouge LA
where it promptly was put to work. I declined an offer to go to work
immediately as I...

First 2 1/2 hours PPL(H) today! by
Simon Robbins
Today I started an intensive PPL(H) course. (I'm going to fly three times a
week, two hours a day.)
I did an hours trial lesson last year in an R22 which I enjoyed immensely
and cemented my determination to learn to fly these bizarre contraptions.
Finally, nearly a year later I've got the...

Rotor lift coefficient by
devi
I have been trying to model rotor wake using vortex methods, I am
confused regarding the lift coefficient, should the value of the lift
coefficient obtained after computing the lift using the bound vortex
strength of the blade be the same as the sectional lift coefficient of
the airfoil?

Rotor-wing question by
D. Andrews
Hello all,
This is my first time posting here, but I figured maybe you all could
help me out with a question that has been nagging at me for quite a
while. Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question.
Here goes:
Does a helicopter, without lateral movement, have the ability to fly
down, or...

PPL(H) Hours 8.4 to 12.1 by
Simon Robbins
Well I didn't write anything last week because I had a really bad second
day's flying. Having done really well the day before side-slipping round a
hover square I think I went in to it with too much confidence. Early in the
second hour I came down a little too hard on concrete and instantly got...

Light Electric Rotorcraft by
[email protected]
Hi,
I was looking at pictures of Yamaha's recently announced Deinonychus
motorbike, and was struck by how functional and light it looked, due to
having been designed around electric wheel-motors:

Somehow this same barebones functional look reminded me a bit of...

Linden Accident - Question about "Droop Lock" by
Bob Chilcoat
I was talking to a Sikorsky pilot at our airport about this accident:
http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20050926X01530&key=1
He said that Sikorskys have a "droop lock" in the cockpit that should
prevent the rotor from getting too low. How does this work? Does it leave
a certain amount of...
