How to Avoid Being Grounded. by betwys1
I pulled my plane over to the wash stand to lose the fly squash this evening. It was a little harder than I expected, to pull the 20 yards or so. So I used a gas bottle to fill the tires, and put the bottle in the cockpit while I pulled it back to the hangar. That's when I noticed the...

FAA whistleblower by john hawkins
I don't know a thing about it yet, but this whistleblower case in the FAA sure has the potential to become interesting. "I inform my then-supervisor, Anne Bechdolt, Acting Manager, Operations Law Branch, that I refuse to obey an order that would require me to violate the law..." A few things...

ELT Checks by Kevin Chandler
I know that I am allowed to replace the ELT battery of my airplane. At the same time, I performed an ELT check as stated in FAR 91.207. Not being an A&P or an IA, am I allowed to perform this check and sign off on it? Thanks in advance for any responses,

Tomahawk, a good buy? by Chrisdt
I recently saw a Piper Tomahawk on bidbuyandfly.com selling for 110 000 ZAR, or more or less $16000 US. I have 72 hours in total, 42 of them on a 152. How does the Tomahawk compare? I have heard a lot of stories about the Piper Tomahawk. Would this be a good buy for the price advertised?

Cessna 172N with 0-320-H2AD by Paul
I am looking for an a/c, my first, to complete my training and to use for recreational flying. I am looking at 172s and a book I recently acquired (The Cessna 172 by Bill Clarke) suggests that this engine is to be avoided. I saw an ad in Trade-A-Plane by Factory Engines and the prices for factory...

ELT mounting; NTSB by David Lesher
The NTSB is concerned about ELT mountings. This came out of the Ted Stevens crash. I'd have thought the ELT would have a integral antenna with some kind of switching scheme, but I guess not. http://www.ntsb.gov/Recs/letters/2010/A-10-169-170.pdf -- A host is a host from coast to...

FAA final rule: Aircraft registrations now good for only 3 years by Alpha Propellerhead
Commercial airlines see private pilots as obstacles to their own business, so they will consistently lobby in favor of airlines and against private pilots. Over time, inevitably, private flight will wither and die. "Commercial airlines" is a redundancy. All commercial pilots started as...
