Jim Weir - PTT switch article? by Corrie
Jim - back several months ago you had an article in either Kitplanes or Custom Planes about a PTT switch. My copy has vanished since the last move. Is there an online copy of the article? A search at Kitplanes.com came up dry. Corrie

Sparkplug picking tool by Michael Horowitz
An A&P showed me how to clean a sparkplug; first the two-prong vibrating thing for deep cleaning, then sandblasting, then manual picking of deposits. He was using dental picks for the last task. What do you use? - Mike

Fuel prices--BTU's per gal. by Jerry Wass
Hate to disagree. but there are more BYU's in a GALLON of Avgas than in a GALLON of Mogas. Why?? Avgas weighs more per Gallon... Most fuel type hydrocarbons have nearly the same BTU's per Lb.

Hilsch Tube for Cabin Temp control... by EridanMan
Hey Guys- Has anyone ever attempted to install a Hilsch Tube (Vortex Tube) in an aircraft for environmental controls? The setup I see would be very light, a 3 foot long PVC vortex tube (no more than 5 lbs) with a small exhaust turbocharger force-feeding it. Yes the Hilsch tube is not a...

GY-20 Minicab group by Michael[_6_]
G'day, Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a Yahoo group called "GY-20_Minicab-builders". This group seems to have vanished from the face of the internet - does anyone know what happened? The last time I accessed it was the 31st of January so it's only been deleted in the last...

Throttle friction lock slipping - How do I stop this? by Ron
Twenty year old throttle control with friction lock is slipping. Is there a way to replace the nylon (material?) gripper that the screw flange presses against that in turn presses against the throttle shaft? I could just replace the whole thing but that would be a BIG job. Any and all suggestions...

Smoke system using used propane torch bottle? by Scott
I seem to recall a relatively simple smoke system that used a propane torch bottle to hold the smoke oil and I believe it was pressurized with air to eliminate the need for a pump. I realize it would only be good for short bursts, but that is exactly the application I need. Any reference to...

Kitplanes CD-ROM directory by David Smith
Is there a store or other source that still has old copies of the Kitplanes magazine CD-ROM that has a database / search facility for kit aircraft? The magazine no longer sells the information in a CD format, so I am looking for suggestions. David

Avionics Build It Yourself Manuals by RST Engineering
So for 35 years now we've been putting out our kits with two printed manuals per kit ... a "operations and maintenance" and a "construction and assembly" manual. Each of which costs us about $2 a manual. Not a big deal. I've got a wild hair that we can put out a digital CDROM set of manuals...

Fuel Pump Clue requested by Tim Hickey
I have a Zenith CH-300 with a Lyc 0-320. It has an engine mounted fuel pump, and an electric aux pump. I also have a fuel pressure gauge, and a low fuel pressure warning light. Today, for the first time, when I did my pre-flight run-up, the low fuel pressure light came on. When I looked at the fuel...

Can I build one of you items? by Gig 601XL Builder
I'm getting closer to the point where I will be working on the panel of my 601XL and I need to ask you a question. I have little to know electronics experience. Of course I'd never had any metal working experience and I think I'm doing a pretty good job on my plane. So the question is how much...

Carb heat specs? by Rich S.
Will someone please point me to the specification for effective carburetor heat? A friend is in the midst of his flight testing and asked me how one determines if the carb heat is working properly. All's I know is that if the rpm drops a hunnert or so on run-up, you say, "Check" and take off. Rich...
