hard wax application by
Tuno
I've never used hard wax before, but since the factory recommends it
on the gelcoat, I'm going to give it a try. I just have no clue how to
go about it. (My Google search results are great -- for hair removal!)
I have a Makita 0-3000rpm variable speed polisher, a brick of hard
wax, and a mandrel...

new Soaring article by
John Cochrane[_2_]
I wrote an article for Soaring, that will appear in the July issue.
Title: "Gizmo Future." A somewhat unusual view of the "what's in the
future for Soaring" kind of article. It's on my webpage if you just
can't wait for...

1,633 km (1,015 sm) Sierra Wave Flight by
Kizuno
Last Thursday, March 25, the Sierra wave was in prime form. I took off from
the Minden, Nevada airport at 6:46am in my ASH-26E and flew a Free 3 TP task
landing at California City at 5:03pm for an estimated distance of 1,633 km.
This flight was similar to my SOARING magazine article of last year...

Mayday in Utah by
[email protected]
Today (June 11) Oakland Center asked the Global Hawk Test Team to help
with a Mayday call from a motorglider in Utah. The team was flying a
new Global Hawk somewhat above 50,000 feet north of Edwards AFB and
was 8 hours into a 30 hour mission to test the sensor suite when OAK
Center made the...

How to suspend a glider? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
Has anyone out there ever suspended a glider in the air without
resorting to the conventional method of airflow over the wings? I have
an opportunity to hang both of my Grob 103's in two malls over the
holiday season. I am pushing for having a Santa in the back and a
Rudolf leaning forward...

AOA indicator poll. by
Luc Job
Hi!
I have developed last year a solid-state AOA indicator, based on a
differential pressure measurement (total pressure/pressure at angle)
Undoubtedly, this is a primary flight instrument to me:
-It shows where you are aerodynamically speaking, independently of
all the variable parameters:...

Grow soaring thru entertainment by
John
Added a similar comment when I filled in the SSA soaring survey.
Want to grow soaring? Market soaring as low-cost entertainment to
generate mass appeal. Develop a commercial gliding site that focuses
on giving rides only, quickly and cheaply.
Look at all the teenagers spending $5-$15 to ride...

Ventus 3 Performance In Perry SC by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
I noticed the Ventus 3 took 3 of the top 5 in the 18 meter class.
Looks like to me they have come up with a very fine ship.
I haven't seen one in person yet, look forward to that day.

Gatorade (only slightly OT) by
Martin Gregorie[_5_]
With summer, season of heat, dehydration and cramps, nearly here I have a
question:
Does anybody know where I can buy powdered Gatorade in the UK -
preferably lemon/lime flavour in 521g (18.4 oz) jars.
Failing that, does anybody have a recipe for an acceptable substitute?

Hi Jonathan-
I assume that by the "ASA" you mean the Arizona Soaring Association and our
basically unamimous voice against the "15 minute rule" and the one mile
cylinder. First of all I don't understand the point that you are making
since in your opening statement you say that "the contest was...

Looking for Libelle information. by

Hello all,
New guy here. I recently bought a Schuemanized Libelle and would like more information on these ships. I heard there were only nine manufactured, but I can't find that in writing anywhere. Because the nose is closed up (CG tow hook now) air into the cabin is slight, I'm curious how...

Recognizing and reacting to tow plane engine failure by
son_of_flubber
It would be useful to hear your stories of how incidents of tow plane engine failure turned out for you. It seems that there is very little time to recognize, react, and recover. What are classic mistakes to make in this scenario?
Would it be useful to practice 'release and land to the side of...
