VF-31 and -213 Information?? by
[email protected]
I'm looking for any current contact info for VF-31 and/or VF-213.
Neither of them have current web-sites, or at least not ones that are
accessible by John Q Public.
I'm trying to get information about the markings on their current
deployment as well as info on what happens when they come back...

A-6 Radar Display? by
Nick Coleman
Just started re-reading Coont's Flight of the Intruder, and his
description of the capabilities of the terrain radar is interesting.
Early in the book he describes a training flight through canyons and
valleys in IMC, using the radar for avoidance.
I'm curious what the BN would actually see in...

Amphib decks commanded by SWOs ? by
Mike Weeks
Does anyone have any knowledge (general or otherwise) as to when the
USN changed its policy regarding authorizing surface warfare officers
to command the large amphib decks (the LPHs/LHAs/LHDs) ??
I'm thinking it didn't happen until after the 1970s. TIA.

P-3 and AIM-9 by
Larry Cauble
As a young sailor (some 30+ years ago) I flew in the back of an EP-3B 'Batrack' aicraft of VQ-1. Years later, I read of the story of the two P-3As that were converted to EP-3Bs in the 1960s.
The story is that they were CIA-operated out of Taiwan, Germany, etc. with a number of modifications for...

Wildcats to Tomcats: The Tailhook Navy (Tailhook Navy Series) by
John
Howdy all. I found a copy of Wildcats to Tomcats: The Tailhook Navy
(Tailhook Navy Series) editted by Barrett Tillman. It seems to be oral
histories by three naval aviators - Wally Shirra, Zeke Cormier, and
Phil Wood.
Has anyone read it and have any comments about the book itself?
Thanks in...

BRAC 2005 List by
Joe Delphi
I heard on the radio that the BRAC 2005 list was going to be released
sometime this week. Anyone got a link?
Rumor has it that Los Angeles Air Force Base (Station?) is on the list. It
is mainly a contract administration office, no aircraft located there.
Haven't heard anything about Naval bases...

Accidents will happen by

Around summer 1989, a three-foot-long practice bomb was accidentally
dislodged from a Navy fighter je that was on a training mission. The
wayward ordnance, which was inert, came to rest in the backyard of
William Larsen's Middleburg, FL, home. The bomb gouged a foot-deep
crater in the earth, but,...
