Experiences using SeeYou as Flarm display by K
On Monday, May 5, 2014 9:38:22 PM UTC-6, wrote: My ship has a very small panel. What experiences and opinions are there on using SeeYou (with an Oudie in my case) for the Flarm Display? SYM on the Oudie works great for other gliders. The problem is that it does not...

Water bag cleaning by K
In the process of overhauling my dump valves this winter I noticed some brownish deposits in the bags. Nothing too bad or worth pulling the bags but I was wondering if I should add something to the water to keep the bags clean. I have heard of fabric softener but I assume this is mostly for...

Cobra Trailer-Replacing front panel by K
I am going to start a project soon to replace the front lower panel and one of the corner brackets on a late 90s Cobra trailer. The trailer had been repaired (but not all that well) from a minor accident long before I bought it and it and I managed to dent the thing last season (Don't ask;)). Ive...

ebay glider stuff by K Baum
Dear Group, A buddy recently listed some soaring stuff on Ebay for me that might be of interest. First is a Repogle (SP) Baroghaph (Item 330208565173) and the other item is an old Aviation radio for use by a chase crew (Item 330208563963). Thanks for looking. FB

Trig TX-Too much sun? by K m
On tow the this weekend I noticed my transponder display was blank. It was lit (Or Backlit) but no 1202. The display may have been in direct sunlight for a few moments (Just a few, I am very careful about this)before launch. After landing I cycled the TX a few times and got a blank backlit display...

Power Flarm Display by K m
Readers, Was wondering what pilots are doing for Flarm displays. Ive used an LXNav Flarm View for years but with the upgrades to SYM it seems a dedicated screen is redundant. I am in the process of off season maintenance and will probably ditch the Flarm View display unless I can figure out what it...

Grob Twin Astir by K m
Group, My club is looking to convert a Twin Astir brake system to a Hydraulic Disk from a Mechanical Drum. Our serial number does not fall within the serial number range of the Kit that is offered by Lindner. We have the Lindner kit and will be going with a 337. My question is does anyone know of a...

NIMH Batteries by K M
Dear List, It is time to replace one of the battery packs for my sailplane. I currently use packs consisting of 7 2.5V SLA batteries to make a 14V pack. This has worked very well for me in the past but the AH on these cells is somewhat limited. I would like to ad a transponder and possibly some...

SSA Car Donation by K M
Dear List , I don't usually post here , but I want to pass along my experience with the SSA car donation program . I had an old Ford Explorer that I used as an airport car and tow rig . It was in good running order engine and transmission wise , but at 180K miles the entire brake system needed an...

Affordable Glider by K Smith
O.K. now that I am getting back into gliding, I will want to purchase a glider of my own in the not so distant future. I had a lot of fun flying a 1-26 when I was doing my solo training, and am thinking seriously about getting one as the money flow allows. But there is that part inside me that...

Getting back to gliding by K Smith
I haven't flown since 1993, and am now a diabetic who gained a large amount of weight. I have finally gotten off my lazy butt and decided to drop the weight and get back in a sailplane. I hope to be back in shape by this winter sometime. What I need to know is if the medical requirements have...

gear warning plus by K.P. Termaat
Hello, Several reactions on my "gear warning plus" system inspired me to introduce a pressure switch to the original diagram. Now the conditions "still on the ground and ready for take off" can be distinguished from "in flight and ready to land". Have another look at...

No more "10 km apart" by K.P. Termaat
To avoid "yo-yoing" rules 1.4.5.b. and 1.4.3.c. of the Code have the "10 km apart / only once" restriction. Works fine to avoid that pilots fly back and forth between two nearby turnpoints e.g. along mountain ridges. We feel however that it is not reasonable to apply this "anti yo-yo" restriction...

"10km / only once" amendment by K.P. Termaat
Thanks to people like Ian, Robert, Herbert, Jack, Ruud, Janos and other respectable guys, I am very much convinced now that it cannot be that an excellent 1000 km performance is japordized by an FAI rule of which the true intention has been fulfilled in a very convincing way. I am talking again...

10 km's apart by K.P. Termaat
For a distance flight using up to three turn points the Sporting Code says at 1.4.5.b. : "The turn points must be at least 10 kilometers apart and may be claimed once, etc." Why "10 km", why "once". Does anybody know. Karel

Avoiding Vne by K.P. Termaat
Yesterday evening I talked with a friend about avoiding excessive speed when recovering from a spin in a modern low drag glider with the somewhat larger span. He came up with the idea of pulling the airbrakes when still recovering from the rotating mode. I am not sure this can be done without...
