Which bird thermals the best? by
Scott Alexander[_2_]
So in a recent conversation with a greatly experienced soaring pilot,
I was told that Buzzard's have terrible thermaling skills. I tend to
agree with this as it sure seems Buzzards don't get into the core and
stay there. The lesson learned was don't let Turkey Buzzard show you
where the core is,...

"open source" video project for glider ratings by
thing73[_2_]
Wouldn't it be nice to collectively (amongst all the soaring clubs in
the country) to develop a soaring curriculum aimed at passing the FAA
glider rating writtens (much like King Schools do now for FAA airplane/
helicopter ratings)? We could assign topics to different clubs and
post them to you...

PowerFLARM as a Flight Recorder by
kilocharlie
Does anyone know status of the PowerFLARM certification for the FAA approved Flight Recorder.
Here among my firend it is a common consent that we would rather invest in PowerFLARM then any other Flight Recorder - IF PowerFLARM would be fully certified. However it appears that we can not get a CLEAR...

Komet trailer interior floor refinish by
Bastoune
I am considering refinishing the wood floor of my 80's era Komet
trailer over the coming weeks. The current plywood floor is in fair
shape but could use a coat of paint. I'd like to go for the painted
glossy look of those new trailers! The wood flooring is currently
stained...in some areas...

PowerFlarm rentals by
Lee[_11_]
Before everyone gets thier shorts in a knot, give peace a chance.
There WILL be a rental program for contest gliders. There are 4
months to get this up and active. Dale has elected to abdicate the
effort to MIRA but that does not mean that the rental effort is dead.
We are very busy with other...

SYM Copy? by
sisu1a
Hi All,
I think my installation of SYM I'm using on my 310 is corrupted. My
update privileges ended as of March of this year, so I can't just
download a new one from Naviter. Does anyone have an archived copy of
the SYM download from last March or around thereabouts?
TIA,
-Paul

mini-map by
Gaetan Trudel
Hi
The LX web site says that I can use the MIni-map kb with my LX 5000.
It is somewhat pricey at $ 1600 with Seeyou mobile at twice the price
of a OUDIE who is not really readable in the sun.
Anyone has use it and care to comment.
Regards
S6

(I have no commercial or personal connection to this video - just
thought it needed to be shared!)

Comm Antenna in Winglet by
SoaringXCellence
To all you communication experts,
I have a Schreder hp-15/18 I am rebuilding. I need to install a
communication radio antenna. Is it possible that an installation in
one of the winglets will provide reasonable radio communications. The
winglet is fiberglass and I can ground to the aluminum...

Low Altitude Wave by
GARY BOGGS
I shot this out my window here in Hood River, Oregon, USA, looking
SE. Our winds are usually from the opposite direction all summer, but
in the winter the surface wind is reversed and we get this low level
wave. Not too impressive but I thought some of you might be
interested. We can get to...

Ventus B gear assy photo needed by
Mark
I'm curious if anyone happens to have a picture handy on their
computer which shows the port (left) side of a Ventus B gear
assembly. In particular, I'm curious how/where the aluminum strip
which comes from the "fender" forward to the left side of the wheel/
gear assembly is attached and where it...

Flight Recorder for SSA Badges by
Carl6703[_2_]
I would like to retire our old Barographs and replace them with a
portable Flight Recorder that could be rented to candidates for SSA
badges. Does anyone have any suggestions for a portable flight
recorder which would meet the badge requirements? Thanks.

Comet trailer gas struts by

Anyone know of a good source of replacement gas struts for old Komet

close enough. Ditto for contacting Harold E. He seems to have
vanished.

How does your club handle transient members? by
SF
Our club has a small number of transient members that own their own
gliders and only fly with us a few months of the year. It is rather
punitive to make them pay the full club dues every month in order to
offer tows for the month or two that they are in town. Does anyone
have a club membership...
