Fabric Softener sheet for mice by
Steve Leonard
Mal worte:
You would think the mean gear well, would scare them
away !
Doh! Smell check, er spell czech, maybe it was gray
hair check or gray mar check that went wrong.
I would have thought that the Big Bad BS1 would have
scared them off, without needing a 'mean gear well.'

The UV Index and why your canopy is your friend by
Eric Greenwell
I recently bought an Oregon Scientific UV888 Personal UV Monitor (~$30).
Among other things, it measures the UV flux and computes the UV Index
(UVI), then determines a "safe exposure time" based on your input of
skin type and the SPF of the sunscreen you are using.
Naturally, I made a...

Dennis Wright - I'll miss you by
Paul Remde
Hi,
I feel this needs to be said.
I am very sorry to see Dennis Wright resign from the SSA. I agree that it
makes sense. I agree that he should have caught the financial issues long
ago - that would have saved us all a lot of pain. However, I was impressed
with him.
- He was a glider...

Air to air photography by
Stephen Cook
At my club we want to take some air to air photographs of a glider for
promotional purposes. Does anyone have any useful experience they can pass
on?
Questions I'm thinking of:
What is a suitable camera aircraft? I imagine another glider is not the
easiest for getting the camera where you...

SSA in Crisis: Can It Heal Itself? [LONG] by
[email protected]
(with apologies to non-U.S. readers)
Most of the postings on this subject follow a predictable pattern:
"what a bunch of stupid/unethical/indifferent (pick one) idiots we have
at SSA; why don't they just " A few (including mine) urge patience, support, and
a chance to let the process...

Fine scratches on wing gel coat by
Discus 44
I have noticed some fine scratches on the top of my wing surface that
are diagonal across the chord in opposing pattern. Can anyone explain
if there is an aerodynamic reason for having these scratches remaining
on the surface?

Sunset and nigh flying definitions by
Ian Strachan
In other threads, people are talking of "sunset" as the latest landing
time for flights to IGC Sporting Code rules. I do not think that this
is quite right, I believe that the critical time is a bit later. The
aviation rules of most countries say something like: "Night. The hours
between the end...

[US: PA/VA] North Mountain by
Papa3
Has anyone flown North Mountain (on the PA/VA border just SW of the
Potomac and downwind (on a NW day) from Sleepy Creek Mountain? Looks
pretty marginal from topo maps and Google Earth, but thought I'd ask.
The point at Frog Hollow would work very nicely for a task I have in
mind. Any of you...

Is the tetrahedron at an airport:
1) Supposed to be pinned down to show active runway
2) Allowed to be pinned down to show active runway
3) Supposed to pivot freely with the wind direction
(Background: our club has a long-standing policy to anchor the
tetrahedron. Some of us are really scratching...

Fiat 850's and lousy wooden gliders... by
pbc76049
There is a Cherokee 2 guy on this group that reminded me of a couple things.
My old Fiat 850 was just about the coolest car to drive on the street.
It isn't fast, it isn't quick, it's on skinny tires so it doesn't corner too
well
BUT you can dive bomb off ramps at 100 % effort, load the car up as...
