Aircraft Id needed from newsgp experts! by
RGP
Hi! I'm trying to clear up an argument about the first military jet
aircraft to land in Gander Newfoundland.
According to "official history", it would seem that the first jet was an RAF
Canberra in 1951 (I remember going to see it as a very young boy!) However
I have come across a photo of an...

Doolittle Raids... by
Richard
I was just reading through some stuff on the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo:
"...After dropping their bombs, mainly on or near their intended
targets, Doolittle's sixteen B-25B bombers left Japanese airspace,
essentially unhindered by enemy air interception and anti-aircraft
gunfire. One of them,...

F/A 18 by
Richard
About 15 years ago I saw a RAAF F/A 18 perform at Ohakea in New Zealand.
After takeoff it flew out to sea. It returned from behind a hangar
travelling slowly down the runway on its tail. The hangar obscured our view
of the transition. It continued down the runway at perhaps 30 mph and 50
metres...

B52 Bomb Wing insignia question by
Richard Brooks
Was it down to individual Bomb Wings to decide if the insignia was displayed
on the starboard side nose or not ?
I've got the port side view of a 93rd Bomb Wing B-52 which shows the SAC
insignia against the diagonal star bar and above the aircraft for reference
is the 93rd Bomb Wing insignia.
On...

Lancaster book series question. by
Richard Brooks
What is the full name of the large book series entitled Lancaser ? Is it
Legend of a Heavy Bomber ?
IIRC, each book is larger than A4 with lots of black and white photographs
and mostly grouped into sections, such as chapters on air gunners, pilot,
navigator.

When is that date and I wonder if they'll do a vic flypast first before
landing ?
Got my stereo camera and I'm ready!

Handley Page O/400 Bomber by
Richard Johnson
My ggrandfather was a Canadian who flew a Handley Page 0/400 bomber in WW1
for the RFC. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any that still existed
in a museum somewhere in England perhaps. We have the bombsite from the one
he flew.
Thank you.
Rick.

Fighter Aircraft Alternates? by
Richard Stewart
Hi Guys,
Just wondering what the alternate (losing) choices were for the main US
older fighter aircraft?
eg. I know the YF17 lost out to the F18...
But what were the competitors to the rest (you don't need to go back too
far) - that's if they actually HAD competitors...
F14?

I have a question about Paul Richey's account of the Battle of
Britain, given in "Fighter Pilot", B T Batsford, 1941
