RAH History by
cavelamb himself[_4_]
I've been trying to find some of the things I wrote here over the past
how-many years.
Google lets you search by thread name, but the way things drift...
Or by author.
But not by any contents of the messages.
Anyone have a way to search form date to date for messages containing
an indetifying...

Losing a wing in flight? by
cavelamb himself[_4_]
I can't decide.
Did this really happen?
Or is it doctored?
Too much important stuff happens off screen, and the landing
doesn't look real.

Experimantal Airctaft by

Wikipedia has a list of the X planes, and quite a bit of information on
many of them. These are the airplanes that took bold leaps forward in
the state of the art of aviation....
But a few might take you by surprise...

Macchi M.5 Italian fighter by

When Jason Petroelje first scanned the plans for the Italian World War I
fighter plane he hoped to build, this is what greeted him:
"Idrovolante a scafo e galleggiantini laterali, biplano, monomotre,
monoposto ..."
Petroelje is Frisian, not Italian. And although he spent a couple of
years in...

Lycoming O-235 dimensions question by
cavelamb himself[_4_]
Regarding the Lycoming O-235, O-290D and O-290D2...
Lycoming says the engine is 29.06 inches long.
But does that include the mags? Or just to the accessory case?
Does someone have one handy that they might check on that?
Appreciate it.

Why do you build airplanes? by
cavelamb himself[_4_]
Personally, I've never enjoyed anything as much as the act of creating a
flying machine. Well, ok, there was sex back in my young and dumb days.
But for me - it's the act of creation.
I suspect others may have different thoughts.
Anybody care to share?

Back to bolts...
My point was that an super strong bolt can overtress the attached
structure without any indication that it has happened - until a
fitting breaks or something like that.
This fellow comes to a different conclusion than I usually do.
