boycott united forever by
gatt
My dad worked for 24 years at UAL-PDX. Laid him off in his 24th year, a
year before he was eligible for full retirement. He was UAL-PDX employee
of the year a couple of times, received all kinds of awards and bonuses...he
received one award for not missing a day of work for something like...

Who's At Fault in UAV/Part91 MAC? by
Larry Dighera
How does the military's use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle intend to
comply with the Part 91 See-And-Avoid mandate? Will there be new
Restricted Areas imposed along the border, or will the UAVs be flown
in Positive Control...

Pilot deviations and a new FAA reality by
Chip Jones
OK pilots, try this one on for size. As you likely know, there is a wide
and growing rift between the career FAA bureaucrats (aka FAA Management) who
run the monstrosity called the federal Air Traffic Organization, and the
career FAA air traffic controllers who make that monstrosity work in the...

Turbine Duke or turbine Baron? by
[email protected]
I got an email response from the guys at Rocket Engineering about their
PT6A conversion of a P-Baron. He mentioned they're finishing STC work
for their turbine Duke conversion and I wondered which airplane might
make the better platform for conversion. Their preliminary numbers for
the -21 engined...

Constant speed prop oil leak by
DP
I was pre-flighting my plane today until I saw this long red strip
running down the entire length of my prop with a small puddle at the
bottom!!! I hadn't seen it before. It was the first time flying in
three weeks. I was at the plane last week, and didn't see anything,
but the again, I wasn't...

About those anti-aviatoin newsgroups by
C J Campbell
We should be cautious about posting anything on these news groups. There is
no way of convincing the mentally ill that airplanes are not a threat to
them, so arguing with them is futile. At worst, somebody in these groups
could find out about the rec.aviation news groups. This is a serious...

When to acknowledge ATC by
Andrew
ATC says "radar contact, 20 miles south of XYZ, proceed on course". Do
you acknowledge this transmission? How about when ATC says "altimeter
setting 2992" on your first contact after a handoff? Does this require
acknowledgement?
In the past, I've acknowledged such things if the controller was...

Airparks; Living On The Beaten Path? by

Do you (I) really want a home that close to a GA landing strip? Yet I see
megabuck homes in my neck of the woods

Absolute lowest altitude you can fly (legally) by
Mxsmanic
What regulations determine the absolute lowest altitude you can fly
above the ground in the U.S.? I understand that the area just above
the ground is usually Class G outside airports, and it only goes up to
700 or 1200 feet most of the time ... which implies that you can
actually fly at 500 feet...

United Airlines, We put the "Hospital" in "Hospitality"! by

Find us on http://www.facebook.com/flightorg. On the 9th April,
2017, a man was forcibly removed from United Airlines Flight
3411 in Chicago, set for Louisville. While we'd normally say
that until we have all the information, we have no information...

when does a "remain clear" instruction end? by
Arden Prinz
Recently I was departing a small airport (with no control tower) which
was underneath the class C shelf area of a somewhat larger airport
(which is an air force base). Immediately before departing, I called
the approach controller for the class C airspace and told him that I
was departing and...

How much longer? by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
With Avgas topping five bucks a gallon, I find myself asking: How much more
will it take before GA is completely unaffordable? At what price point
will all the current "weekend pilots" be driven from the market?
Example: While on our trip back from Florida a couple of weeks ago, we paid
$5.20...

Student Drop-Out Rates...why? by
Jay Honeck
In another thread, we have been hashing out whether some pilots in training
quit flying because of a hair-raising event, such as a brush with disaster,
or getting lost.
Few ex-students seem to admit that this was a reason for quitting, but the
drop-out rate seems to be far higher than it should...

Stop whining, America! by
Jay Honeck
Everywhere, every day on the radio, television, and in the newspapers, all I
hear is how the "Record Price of Oil" is killing America.
Yet, strangely, Americans keep driving *more*. And I don't see anyone
flying less.
How can this be?
Here are some encouraging stats from the current issue of...

Bullying desguised (badly) as precaution by
AJ
I took my daughter to Linden Airport (that's in New Jersey). We stood
with a small crowd at the fence on the shopping mall side as planes
took off and landed. (This is where I got my interest in flying many
years ago.)
Presently a mall security truck drove up and the guard told us to
disperse...

Nearly had my life terminated today by

Hi all,
While I was on my way home this evening from Flying Traffic survey. I
was nearly run over by a Baron driver coming out of Stafford Airport
(RMN) on his way to Frederick (FDK).
He called Potomac approach saying level 3200. I was cruising at 3000
between Stafford, Virginia near Quantico...
