Henry J Cobb
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/16293387.htm
As a result of the fire, the three squadrons training to fly the V-22
at Marine Corps Air Station New River, in North Carolina, are now
flying the aircraft with air cleaning devices - called engine air
particulate separators, or EAPS - switched...

Ready Room Ditty Lyrics by
Boomerang
Anybody remember the words to the Ready Room Ditty about the unfortunate
Naval Aviator who didn't quite get aboard, but "the Pratt and Whitney Man
said it couldn't be the engine 'cause the @#$ @#% things don't QUIT!" etc.
etc. What preceeds and what follows? Anybody? Long time ago, I know....

V-22 Osprey "ground effect" question by
Robert
In the publicity photo's of ship landing's the V-22 looks like one prop is
in "ground effect" and the other one is hanging over the side of the ship so
it's NOT in "ground effect"
Does anyone know how big of a problem this is? Does it limit the cross-wind
performance? So even though it's vtol...

SEA STORY - A true one experienced by Frenchy Corbeille USN(Ret)
It was Sunday afternoon, early in the month of August, 1968 when USS
Forrestal (CVA-59) was making her way through the Western
Mediterranean during the first days of a 7-month cruise. I was Officer
of the Deck (OOD) on the 1200 -...

Alert! Iran has flying submarines!!! by
Ed Zagmoon
They have flying submarines which can fly with up to Mach 3
and are equipped with rail-guns and fusion bombs!
Beware! They've got this technology from extraterrestrials, the
same E.T.s who once gave Hitler all the super-technology
the nazis used to terrorize Europe!
The only way of defeating Iran...

Status of CVW-17 by
Ralph_S
I bought a copy of Air Forces Monthly last weekend, that includes an
overview of the current USN carrier wing compositions. To my amazement
I saw that CVW-17 currently doesn't seem to have _any_ Hornet squadrons
assigned to it. Until recently it had four:
VFA-103 Jolly Rogers is part of CVW-7, as...

Helo 66 recovery? by
DDAY
I stumbled across a website that mentioned the helicopter used in many of
the Apollo spacecraft recoveries which had the big "66" painted on its side.
The site said that this Sea King was lost in 1975 off the coast of San Diego
when it got pulled into the water while using its dipping sonar.
The...

Time travel by
Jim
We haven't played with this for some time now. Seeing as how we have
newer members let's see how this plays out.
You have the opportunity to travel back to the '50s, '60's, '70s'. You
may select any airframe of that era and "rebuild" it with modern
engines, avionics, etc. The basic dimensions...

USS Midway Museum by
DDAY
I visited the USS Midway museum a few days ago in San Diego, thanks to the
discussion here.
That is a beautifully preserved ship. The volunteers have done a great job
with her. I asked a docent about a few off-limits areas. He said that the
Admiral's quarters should be open to the public in...

Tomcat in Air and Space Museum by
DDAY
I was out at the Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy annex of the National Air and Space
Museum today (near Dulles airport) and saw their newest acquisition: an
F-14D Tomcat. This is one of the remanufactured F-14As, and it is one that
shot down a MiG in 1989.
Oddly, it does not have a MiG silhouette painted...
