Article - "you will be tempted" by John Cochrane[_2_]
A short new article, based on a safety talk I gave last year at Uvalde. Thanks to Bruce and Anita Taylor, it's written and was published in Gliding Australia. Common safety traps for the competition pilot and strategies to avoid them. Direct...

Article in Soaring magazine on making an aerotow rope by Paul Remde
Hi, I'm trying to find a somewhat recent article in Soaring magazine that had instructions for making a towrope - how to attach the ring to the end of the rope. The good news is that the SSA web site's Soaring magazine search function is working again. The bad news is that I can't seem to...

Article on glide strategy by John Cochrane[_2_]
I wrote a new article on how to use computers to help judge glides. http://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/soaring/docs/safety_glides.pdf or the first item here http://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/soaring/index.htm#maccready This will probably end up in Soaring sooner or later,...

Articles by John Cochrane[_3_]
It's the solstice, so you won't be doing much soaring... but you might want to read about it. I put two new articles on my webpage http://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/soaring/index.htm#safety_rules "Team flying." Pilot to pilot radio communication will be allowed at regionals this...

Artificial Horizon - Android or iPhone Bubble/Level App? by V1[_4_]
There are lots of bubble/level apps available for both Android and iPhone. I played with one on the ground (it combines a level and compass) including doing simulated steady state turns; it seems accurate and repeatable. I wondered if it could function as an artificial horizon in a pinch, like...

Artificial Horizon testing by Rory O'Conor
All I have an RC Allen Attitude Indicator Model 26 (Artificial Horizon) fitted in my glider for cloud flying. It is powered by 14V from a stepped up 12V soaring battery. ie plenty of power. It has been levelled. I am concerned about its current reliability when showing straight and level flight.

Artificial Horizon – HELP! by Mike Mike Ground
This winter’s projects include adding an artificial horizon (AH) and PowerFlarm to my panel. I am trying to determine which AH would be best suited for occasional use in XC soaring flights. It would be very helpful to hear from pilots with experience using AH in gliders. Attributes I think would...

Artificial slope soaring by 5Z
Video of indoor slope soaring miniature glider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWAR2WD-BgM&feature=related Has anyone thought about trying this with a full sized sailplane? Perhaps a Sparrowhawk and a big-rig truck? I don't see anything in the Sporting Code that would prevent someone claiming a...

AS-W12 Mods by Steve Leonard[_2_]
Can anyone help me get in touch with someone who has done the mod to increase the max flap deflection on an AS-W12 to something on the order of 50-55 degrees? I remember e-mailing Robert Beck (previous owner of D-1221, serial 14), but the e-mail I have for him bounces back. He said his was...
