Free Soaring Magazines by [email protected]
On my 70th birthday I promised to clear out some of my soaring files. I got 20+ years of soaring magazines for anyone or any club who will pay the shipping cost. Any takers ??

Wintertime and navigation... by BobW
So it's wintertime in the northern hemisphere (short days/long nights), and on a recent thread it's (yet again) been implied out how crucial GPS is to routine navigation (you're doomed without it), and part of increasingly-geezeristic me gazes back fondly upon those forever-vanished days when...

ADS-B in and out in both the tow plane and glider by Charles Longley
Because we haven't quite beaten the ADS-B subject to death ;) I thought I would start a new topic. Does anyone have experience when both the tow plane and glider have ADS-B in and out? How are the alarms handled? In my local area I think there's only one glider with ADS-B out. I am installing a...

Mylar replacement by Bojack J4
How often should the mylar be redone on a horizontal stab/elevator? The glider is always stored indoors in its trailer, and everything looks fine with the factory installed tapes, etc. There is sometimes a quiet air sound that changes pitch with elevator deflection especially when cold.

Hello All, We are looking for another full-time CFIG to add to our already great staff for teaching and glider ride duties. We also need a full-time tow-pilot. I would also like to hire an A&P. It could be one person that can do all three, or multiple people to fill these roles. Business is...

Happening at Minden, NV by bumper[_4_]
Minden, NV is arguably one of the world’s premier soaring sites, offering superb soaring conditions, spectacular scenery, and attractions to keep the family happy. Yet with all this, Minden is perceived by some as being “glider unfriendly”. Since past airport management did their best to discourage...

Did Anyone Ever Buy a Glider HUD? by JohnDeRosa
I was leafing through a back issue of Soaring at SSA's W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U- L online archive. Its fun to see what was happening 10-20-30 years ago. I then stumbled across a heads up display (HUD) for gliders. "Man", I said to myself, "that is pretty...

Cambridge 302 needle stops moving intermittently by Eric Greenwell[_4_]
On the last two flights, the needle on my 302 stopped moving. Cycling the power didn't bring the needle to life, but the everything else continued to work: audio, slow/fast arrows, averager, MC setting, GPS. The first flight, it began moving again after a half hour or so; on the second flight,...

Filser ATR-500 by Roger Fowler
I am thinking of buying a Filser ATR-500 comm radio for our club. Does anyone have any experience with it, especially reliability and repair-wise? I like the idea that it just plugs in where the previous ATR-57 was. But I am concerned because the ATR-57 has to go back to the factory for repair...

This and That by Ray Lovinggood
Two questions: 1. As I load my car for a trip to the airfield for one day of flying, I wonder how the families loaded up for a week or two of competition, back in the day when families went to the competition. From the book about Dick Schreder, written by his daughter (an EXCELLENT book, by the...

Baro/GPS disagreement by [email protected]
I'm a little baffled at the huge difference between my GPS altitude and the pressure altitude when I get up high. Yesterday on the ground, I showed around 10 feet difference between the GPS altitude and the pressure altitude. Up around 17000 feet, the GPS indicates over 1000' higher. I also noted...
