Hello, I am not a pilot - but I play a lot of flight simulator. I wanted to talk to some real pilots about flying proficiently. I feel like I am pretty good on simulator, but I have no way of knowing b/c I don't have feedback from an actual pilot. I was wondering what makes a pilot proficient? ...

Citabria Fuel-Flow Problem by quietguy
The A/C in question is a 1974 Bellanca 7ECA, re-engined with an O-320 so it's effectively a 7GCAA. It belongs to the Offutt AFB Aero Club and has seen very little use, often sitting for weeks at a time until a week ago when I began taking dual in it 2-3 times a week to get my tailwheel...

ILS HKS 900 foot ceilings and VOR A MBO video by [email protected]
800 foot ceilings called my name today and said reach out and touch me. Knocked out a few approaches at KHKS (Hawkins field Jackson MS) and of course my own airport KMBO (Madison MS) and did my obligatory hold over JAN VOR. Was a good work out, light turbulence and Xwinds aloft on my...

FAA NOTAM System Out by Gig 601Xl Builder
According to AvWeb... "About midnight last night, the FAA Notam system crashed," AOPA's Chris Dancy told AVweb early on Friday morning. "Pilots need to know that the system is not being updated, and we don't know at this point how long it will be before it is back on line." Flight service...

Why would you guess they started saying this on the ATIS? by tman
KHFD; "Beware closed field 1 1/2 m NE". I presume it must have been a NOTAM also -- (but it's not there anymore). That field has been closed for 10+ years, and they just started appending this to the local ATIS. Haven't heard of any incidents, or changes to that closed field.

Leighton Collins "Takeoffs and Landings" by Jim Logajan
I'm looking for some book recommendations - but the request comes with a story: A couple months ago I went with my wife to a quilting exhibition at the local state fairgrounds. Quite nice quilting work, actually, though of course I saw only one other male there. When we arrived the parking lot...

Thanks for the invite to speak ... Jim here. With avgas at $5 a gallon and heading north, and with EAA taking a tack decidedly against the little guy in favor of heavy iron, and after 35 straight years of attendance at Oshkosh, and with all of the academic load I've taken on in the last year...

Canard or Mooney by Linton Yarbrough
I don't get the reason for the Cozy or the Velocity (which isn't selling anyway) from the standpoint of speed, comfort, etc. The $$$ come out the same for the most part and you don't have composite issues or trouble getting things fixed. Pusher/tractor preferences aside, am I missing something that...
