Corrosion Proofing by
Clay
DuPont makes Variprime 615S/625S Self-Etching Primer. It has been
recommended to me by a retired FAA engineer.
I saw an Ercoupe and some Cessna wings being rebuilt at Wesport Airport
(Dead Cow) in Wichita. Both were primed with Variprime.
I am considering using Variprime to corrosion proof my...

Bristol radial engines......cowling colour by
Rod
Most technical artists render the leading edge of wartime Bristol
radial engine cowlings a copper-bronze colour.
Several wartime colour photographs (of the Vickers Wellington etc)
show this same effect.
The 'Halifax' restoration/reproduction at the Yorkshire Air Museum has
it's Hercules engine...

1940s-1950s military airplanes glass slides by
pkstore2
I recently ran across a nice batch at an auction of glass slides of fighter
& bomber & recon aircraft from about 1947 to 1954. There could be nice 8x10s
made from these. Please email me at for more
information and a sample slide. Thanks

Towplane strut problem by
John Sp
Our gliding club towplane (Piper Super Cub) has developed play in the
Fuselage / Main strut connection - Portside. The bolt and clevis (Fork)
seem to be OK bolt is a reasonably snug fit in the fork. - I presume the
play is in the hole in the Bracket welded to the fuselage. Play seems to
be about...

What is a Doyne Apache? by
JAX
I've seen some Apaches listed that are 'Doyne conversions' but I can't
find what the conversion involved, except maybe 180hp engines. I know
about Geronimos, but what exactly makes up a Doyne conversion Apache?

Putting a Plane into Storage by
JAX
Is there a procedure or can anyone offer advice on putting a plane into
long term storage, so that the airframe is protected and a few years
down the road it can be brought back up with a minimum of fuss and
lubing? Should the plane be wrapped somehow to keep insects and
critters from getting in? ...

Extra Kollsman Altimeter Pointers by
[email protected]
I have an old Square D Kollsman 3 pointer altimeter that I think it's
about 50 or more years old and seems to be in working condition. The
body is about 2 13/16 diameter. The label on the back says part no.
371K-05
The three altitude pointers give the usual altitude readout. The little
Kollsman...

restoring a DC9 restroom... at home by
[email protected]
I want use my home workshop to rebuild an old, junked restroom from a
USAF DC9.
The milspec drawings show a slot for "used razor blades".
How often am I supposed to clean out the used razor blades to maintain
airworthiness specs?

Aluminum Designations by
W P Dixon
Hi,
Does anyone have a comprehesive list of the old standard aluminum
designations versus the new? Aircraft Spruce has a small one in their
catalog but I would like to see an all inclusive one. A web site search came
up empty.
thanks!
