Club Class vs. Sports Class by
noel.wade
OK, so I made a long post in one thread about competition classes...
5U started another thread about the Rules Committee and I was really
tempted to respond to Karl's comments there; but I didn't want to
hijack the topic. So I'll post this in a new topic instead:
I'm a low-time glider pilot...

Military GPS testing started yesterday on the west coast... by
Matt Herron Jr.
(per FAA Flight Advisory) You might want to factor this in to your
badge or record attempts as the GPS trace may be unusable or have
holes in it. This would be especially true at higher elevations like
wave flights. The effected area is huge, covering most of Nevada and
southern California. For...

i am searching for any studies / info on the variation of rising

Flight Recorder for SSA Badges by
Carl6703[_2_]
I would like to retire our old Barographs and replace them with a
portable Flight Recorder that could be rented to candidates for SSA
badges. Does anyone have any suggestions for a portable flight
recorder which would meet the badge requirements? Thanks.

Dittel Radio Repair by
[email protected]
Can someone recommend a repair shop for a Dittel radio? I have sent my
Dittel 720 B out to a repair shop that is advertised in Soaring Mag.
however I can't get them to return my call. I have tried for over a
month to get information about the status of my repair. Only to get
"the guy who is fixing...

Top Hat or XC Soar and new Samsung Galaxy Devices by
[email protected]
Hello, Does anyone have experience running XC Soar or Tophat Soaring on the newer Samsung Devices?
The note 10 and S10 are reported to have brightness levels over 1000 nits. I’m guessing the previous 8 and 9 generations may also be pretty close for a lot less$
Cannot find much information out...

K8 Seats by
Mike Schumann
Our club has a K8 with extremely uncomfortable seating arraignments.
Basically we are using a combination of foam pieces and misc cushions to try
to make the glider usable. After about 2 hours, it is pure torture.
The basic glider has a metal seat pan that covers the landing wheel. The
seat...

Puchacz reviews by
cuflyer
Hello All,
I am looking for real world reviews of the Puchacz (or the newer Perkoz)
in the club / instructional environment.
How do they hold up to daily use/abuse?
Maintenance issues?
How are they for ab-initio?
Truth to the spin-eager rep?
Any bad habits?

Glider Cross-country signoff & FARs by
Jamey Jacobs
In discussions with other US glider pilots recently, and based on a
quick search of the FARs, I believe that US pilots with PPL-Glider
rating do not need any endorsements or sign-off to go cross country.
If anyone knows differently, let me know.
Before there's lots of advice to get training, fly...

Survival Kits by
ContestID67
I am a big believer in having some form of survival kit in my glider.
Even in the "wilds" of the midwest I can get stuck outside for a while
before being "rescued". I am always on the lookout for items to add
to my kit which I have built up over time. Whistles, fire starters,
signal mirrors,...

15 M Time Management Nationals by
Kilo Charlie
Hi Jonathan-
I assume that by the "ASA" you mean the Arizona Soaring Association and our
basically unamimous voice against the "15 minute rule" and the one mile
cylinder. First of all I don't understand the point that you are making
since in your opening statement you say that "the contest was...

FLAPS by
skysailor
I have approximately 110 hours in sailplanes in the past 2 years and
had no prior experience. I am evaluating used gliders for purchase. The
big kahuna's in the club are pretty adamant about purchasing a first
glider without flaps. My question is: Are flaps that big a problem for
a low time pilot...
