MD26-28 400Hz inverter - not very reliable by Tim Shoppa
Peter wrote: I've had two of the above fail in under 3 years. I would guess that the failures are related to adverse voltages coming in or an adverse load on the output. The electrical environment of a small plane can actually be much more abusive than a modern car, because of the wide...

final reserve fuel by Tim
Hi, Could anyone tell me how the final reserve for jets is calculated? I know it's the fuel to fly for 30 minutes at 1500ft AAL in ISA conditions at holding speed... But what weight do you use? Do you assume that contignency fuel is burnt (so gross weight = TOW - TRIP fuel - ALTN fuel) when...

airpark - with good soaring conditions? by tienshanman
Does anyone know of nice, residential airparks in good soaring areas that would be accommodating of gliders? Western US, Northeast US, whatever.....I need to come back to the US and find a soarable place to live, without having to commute to an airfield.

Hi all, does anyone know of places to rent a DA-40 from in the Phoenix area? Could be an SR20, too. Arizona Flightworks at SDL used to have one, but it is moving to another location. Thanks! -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH)

Does TSA (fingerprinting of students etc) apply to FAA training outside the USA? by Thomas Borchert
Just wondering... some people here (Holland) claim it does and that students needs to get fingerprinted before receiving lessons from an FAA CFII. Of course it does - why shouldn't it? But: Not all kinds of flight training require any such action. -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH)

Early Airbus A-3X series: 'Shear' effect on aft-most rows by [email protected]
Early Airbus A-3X series: 'Shear' effect on aft-most rows On the first two Airbus widebody entrants(the 300 & 310), I distinctly noticed that the rear-most 10-12 passenger windows actually shear up, as do the ends of a classic ocean liner, along with the rows corresponding to that end of the...

757-767-777 DNA by [email protected]
757-767-777 DNA: What's in common, what's different? I know all three share the same cockpit(section ahead of '41'). This is why the 757's front end looks bug-eyed, the 767, just right, and the 777 - slightly squinty, widening aft to accommodate a nearly 747-wide cabin. Secondly, the...

When did planes become wings? by The Thunder Child
I've been reading a 1910 Tom Swift book - Tom Swift and his Airship, in which the dirigible is also outfitted with "planes" - i.e., wings. And of course that's where monoplane, biplane and triplane come from, though I confess I'd never connected the two. So, can anyone tell me when an aeroplane's...
