Strange Vibrations by
Al Gilson
We have a 1964 Cessna 172 E with the 145hp Continental 0-300D and a
McCauley fixed pitch prop. Last Saturday, I flew the aircraft for about
an hour. We were at about 3,500 msl with an air temp of about 42F.
There were some low clouds at about 4,200 msl. No problems. Later in
the day, my plane...

Hard Starting Cold Continental Engines by
M.E. Borner
My Seneca V (Continental TSIO-360-RB) has been very hard to start
during cold weather for the past few winters I have owned it. Besides
burning out several starters I have tried tune-ups prior to winter and
installing the Slick Shower of Sparks ignition system. All have helped
a little but no...

Engine Shop Selection (was 'showing metal @ 1,100) by
Maule Driver
Based on the appearance of metal after 1,100 hours (filings in the
filter and doubling of FE content in 36 hour oil analysis), I'm having
my Lycoming o-360 taken apart. Two major choices to make:
1) Overhaul or 'look, see, fix'. That is, I could just go for an
overhaul (est $12,000 for 2,000...

Single-Engine Partnership vs. Used vs. Flying Clubs by
[email protected]
Salutations All,
I've been reading on aircraft ownership lately, and had a few
questions.
In general, how do aircraft partnerships work? Do partnerships exist
for singles? Are they a good idea vs. purchasing a used aircraft
outright? What about flying clubs - do they typically offer...

Headset: Unexpected safety bonus by
Vaughn
Bought myself a new headset for Christmas. I expected it to just be a new
toy, but I was amazed at the increase in understandability. Lets face it, like
many pilots looking retirement age in the eye, my hearing ain't what it used to
be. Previously, when I got into a plane, I would automatically...

Ethanol mogas by
john smith
I was wondering if it is possible to remove the ethanol from mogas and
thought of the folling idea.
Alcohol binds with water.
Get a big tank with a spigot at the bottom, fill it with mogas.
Add water, aggitate, let sit.
The alcohol ladden water will settle to the bottom.
Open the spigot, drain the...

High time or missing logs? by
[email protected]
Hey folks,
I'm trying to decide which is preferable, a relatively low time plane
with missing logs or a higher time of the same model with all logs.
The first is a 65-year old plane with 1800 ttaf and 346 tsmoh. It's
missing the airframe logs from 1986 and older.
The other has about 3000 ttaf...

Skyhawk versus Archer? by
Joe
Wanted to ask the group for their pro's/cons between the Cessna Skyhawk
and Piper Archer 180.
1) What particular year models are more desired than others
2) Which one is easier to re-sell, and which one has more profit
potential?
3) Easier to maintain?

Hi,
A colleague is looking for a tug, perhaps an electric one, capable of
towing the aircraft (a TB20) by the first wheel a distance of about 50

Piper Aztec - Alternator Conversion by
Dean
I have recently bought a 1960 Aztec with generators. Although these
have been overhauled recently, i'd rather have alternators installed.
I see InterAv have a generic kit. Has anyone installed this before?
What is the time to install, and any issues with particular brand?
Any feedback would be...

Thinking about an aircraft partnership by
Mark Hansen
I'm thinking about getting into an airplane partnership (or co-ownership)
and have a few questions.
When people say that you can't really save money with ownership over
renting, does that include partnerships as well? I would think that
with a 4-way partnership, the operating costs would be...

Cleaning Windows -- Acrylic Cleaners? by

I'm wondering what type of acrylic cleaners are used to clean the
windsheild and windows in your aircraft and where you get it. I've
found a bunch of cleaners through the standard aviation sales channels
but am wondering if there is something I could pick up locally so I
don't always have to plan...

Mooney M20F narrow across the shoulders by
Mark Hansen
I looked at a 1969 Mooney M20F over the weekend, and was surprised
to see how narrow it is in the cockpit. While sitting in the pilot's
seat, I was pushed to the right by the left side of the cabin, and
was not able to sit directly behind the control yoke.
Perhaps I'm just too big for this...

Are all aircraft brokers like this? by
Stan Prevost
I recently sold our airplane using a broker to represent us as sellers.
Things seemed to be OK, a few rough spots, and I would like to have gotten a
little better offer, but we negotiated with a buyer through the broker and
agreed to a sale. Paperwork for the sale then proceeded OK and I flew...
