Bouncing ammeter hand on 76 Warrior by
Leo
Usually the hand on my ammeter bounces for a few moments while taxing
and then settles down at about 20 amps. Yesterday it continued to be
erratic with a few calm moments with the hand indicating 10 amps. The
ammeter has 1976 stamped on the back. Do these things ever wear out?
Is there any way...

I have not been able to find through regular channels a copy of the old FAA
Advisory Circular 20-98, titled (I believe) Auxiliary Two-Way Airborne Radio
System Installations, dated 5/23/77.
I will pay $50US to the first person who agrees to send me an original paper
copy of this...

BPS Program on Daily winning out over pilots? by
Roger
I may have missed something as I caught only a little of the PBS
program due to the band opening and catching a bit from a station I
don't normally get. It looked like they were making Daily out to be
the environmentally friendly hero winning out over the pilots and
turning the airport into the...

Brake Rivet Problem by
Jonathan Goodish
I am trying to replace the brake linings on my Cherokee. I have had new
linings and brass rivets for some time now, along with a rivet tool.
The problem I'm having is that the rivets aren't forming a decent head,
but are simply being "squashed" more or less. They are spreading
slightly, so the...

British Aviators Alcock & Brown by
Writer
CAN YOU HELP?
OBJECT OF ENQUIRY:
I'm seeking proof that either/both the transatlantic pioneers Sir John
Alcock and Sir Arthur Whitten Brown stayed at the `Red House', West Byfleet,
near Weybridge, Surrey at or around the time of their flight in June 1919.
If proof can be found, there is a strong...

Broken fuel selector linkage by
J McKernan
During the preflight of my '66 172G last night, the fuel selector linkage
broke where the upper shaft connects to the mid shaft at the knuckle. One of
the 'ears' that are riveted to the upper shaft broke completely and the
fastener that holds the other to the knuckle became unattached.
I have a...

broken ground wire by
Matt
Hello everyone.
I was looking under the cowling of the 152 the other day, and I noticed that
the ground wire from the left magneto was broken. The end of it looked like
it was frayed and burned. However, when I did a mag check I got the normal
RPM drop on each magneto. I also was able to...

Broken line to Oil Temperature Probe, Repairable? by

I have a Cessna 172M with o-320-e2d engine.
The metal line connecting the gage to the Oil Temperature Probe broke. The
probe is inside the Oil pressure housing on the back of engine.
Can the line be reattached to the 2 inch long Copper probe by welding?
I believe the gage works under capillary...

Bubble windows? by
jim rosinski
All side and rear windows in my 172 need replacement. I'm thinking of
installing bubble windows on the right front and left front for better
visibility. Anyone know about cost premium or speed penalty of these
over flat windows? If the penalty is no more than a few knots it's
probably worth it,...

Budget Retracts - Anyone own a Sierra or Comanche 180? by
RH
I'm a PVT, IFR pilot, but fairly low time at 350 hours, mostly in
various fixed gear PA28's.
I'm interested in buying an entry level retractable. I'd like to use
it to get my commercial certificate, and maybe go on to my CFI/CFII.
But the primary mission would be to haul my wife, 1 year old son...

Build an RV of ??? by
William Snow
I am considering building an RV-7A. I currently own an Arrow. I would like
to have an airplane that will cruise at about 200, with a 200 Hp engine in
order to keep the fuel burn numbers within reason. Is the RV the way to go
or am I missing something??
Any words of wisdom would be greatly...

Building a New Mighty Grape by

Since many aircraft owners have asked me about building our mogas fuel
truck (which we called "The Mighty Grape" because of its horrible
purple color) I thought I'd post my experiences with bringing our new
"Grape" -- a '95 Toyota T100 -- to life.
The Mighty Grape -- subject of magazine articles...

Building chasing airport lights -- Attn: Jim Weir? by

Today a pilot-guest had the coolest idea for the side-entrance to our lobby:
"Chasing" lights recessed in the drop-ceiling tiles, leading to the main
lobby area, that look just like the "rabbit" lights that lead to the
approach end of a runway!
(Background: Over half of our guests come in the...
