Buying an older airplane by Kai Glaesner
Hello community, imagine you consider byuing an older airplane, e.g. a Piper from the Pa-28 Arrow series: is there an age (or a year of birth ;-) you would not exceed? If yes, for what reason (e.g. may be that corrosion-protection was not usual before that year, or that copper was so expensive,...

buying from an estate by G.R. Patterson III
Tony Woolner wrote: Is it more difficult to buy a plane from an estate rather than an owner? There is a broker involved who listed the plane. As long as there's a broker involved, it may be easier. Owners sometimes have inflated ideas of the value of an aircraft and refuse to lower the...

Hello, I in the market for a six seater. Could somone please help me out with a cost analysis of a single engine 6 seater vs a twin. I would like something on the faster end of the group. Some of the models I've looked at are chugging along at 150kts or so. I'm looking for something closer to...

Buying into existing partnership? by Chris
Gang, I am planning to buy into an existing partnership. Should I be less vigilant during prebuy than when buing a plane by myself? - maybe no, but I would like to listen to some arguments. Thanks Chris

Buying prop strike engine by [email protected]
http://www.whiteindustries.com/ White Industries lists engines with flange runout. What does flange runout tell about the engine? It seems some prop strike engines have a larger flange runout reading than others, and the larger the flange runout, the lower the price. Why? Thanks.

Buying recently rebuilt or fixing one up? by [email protected]
I am currently taking flying lessons. I would like to own my own aircraft and have been considering various options. I am currently training in a 152 and I think a 150 or 152 would be a fun first plane to build time with. The 150/152's that appear to be in good condition seem to be in the 35k range...

C-152 Leaseback: what's the scoop? by gatt[_5_]
The owner of FBO was a family member's partner on the police force, is a retired Marine, former mayor, retired sheriff, city commissioner, owns a successful FBO and the fuel operation. Did my IFR, Commercial and will have finished my CFI with him very soon. His integrity and honesty are...

c-170 op/ed? by houstondan
in my ongoing process of falling in love with various aircraft which i cannot afford (yet!) i come to the cessna 170. looks like 35-40k$ for a fair example. i think i prefer the no nosewheel configuration and i'm endorsed to drag so that's ok. i'm curious about the 6 cylinder 145hp motor. seems...

C-172 landing light switch by JFLEISC
My '61 Cessna landing light switch has two positions; First notch is the taxi light, and the last notch turns on the landing light but leaves on the taxi light. Does anyone know of a legal replacement switch that separates the two lights? (taxi light goes off on the last notch). The reason I ask is...

C-172 versus Sundowner by [email protected]
So I've been looking to buy a C-172 and came across this Sundowner. I've heard all the "Slowdowner" stories and did a side-by-side from the published specs: Cruise speed and roc: Sundowner slightly better Payload: Sundowner slightly better Runway required: C-172 slightly better.

C-172 versus Sundowner - epilogue by [email protected]
Well, I went and kicked the tires on the Sundowner. It is roomy and the two doors are a lot more convienient than the single Piper door. But, to make a long story short, the plane had extensive and recent damage from a landing incident; prop strike, collapsed gear, one wing, fuselage, and tail...

C-172 versus Sundowner - Redux by [email protected]
Previously on my quest for an airplane... I passed on the Sundowner because of the recent and extensive damage history. In September I found a 79 Tiger with recent paint and interior, decent avionics, about 2400 TT and 350 SMOH. There was damage history from a bird strike, but this was almost...

C-172L Questions by [email protected]
Having carefully analyzed my flight requirements and plans for the next five years or so, I've decided to take the plunge, probably on a C-172L that I've been looking at. The fixed costs are right about the amount of what I've been spending renting (actually a little lower) and I'm about ready to...

C-172R to SP upgrade by Greg Farris
More knowledgable people here will correct me, but from what I know, the only difference between a 172-R and a 172-SP, besides the leather seats, is the prop on the SP, running at a slightly higher speed. This produces a significant performance difference between the two. Is it possible therefore...
