WxWorx gets a workout by
Dan Luke
Yesterday was one of those sopping wet, unstable Gulf Coast spring days
and I needed to get an Angel Flight couple from Mobile to Jennings, LA
(3R7, west of Lafayette) in the afternoon. By the time we were ready to
leave BFM at noon, the NEXRAD on our route looked like a cheap Hawaiian
luau shirt...

WxWorx is shipping, looking for first feedback by
Mark T. Mueller
Anyone have one of the first units? WxWorx website is stating they are now
shipping. Looking for some firsthand reports.
I gave up on Garmin's GDL-49 (tactically useless), and Control Vision
(transponder interference problems with some KT-76 transponders and flaky
downloads in some areas of the...

X-C from NC to FL over Atlantic ? by
John Doe
Anyone flown X-C down the east coast way out over the Atlantic?
I'm new to the east coast and I'm interested in flying from NC to Florida.
The direct route would take me a good ways out over the Atlantic. I'm not
concerned about flying over way, just curious as to what issues I'm about...

X-country training flight by
dlevy
Should I file individual legs? I don't need to land. If I file individual
legs should I let the controller know before the approach that I'd like to
open the next leg at the missed?
Thanks!

X-max cross-country feasible? by
[email protected]
Hey all... just figured I'd try to gather some opinions on the feasiblity of a
cross-country flight (VA-WI-VA) this time of year. I'm primarily concerned with the
longevity of icing conditions. For those who fly in the area, how long would one expect to
get stuck for this problem in a typical...

X-Plane for IFR training? by
Paul Folbrecht
I've been using On Top 8 as my IFR training sim, and it's not bad, but I
have two problems with it:
1) It is terribly oversensitive in pitch (with my CH yoke at least) and
there seems to be no way around this.
2) My main machine is a dual G5 PowerMac and I'd be much happier with a
Mac sim. ...

XM Weather - Sirius merger with XM Radio by
Roy N5804F
Sirius is making headway in merging with XM Radio.
No one seemed to be asking at the Anti Trust hearing whether or not Sirius
will continue to maintain the XM aviation weather services.
Or if they do, at what cost to the users ?
I would imagine that this will be another User Fee that is going to...

XM Wx Garmin 430/430W with Garmin GDL-69? by
[email protected]
I recently swapped my 430 for a 430W. Is anyone using XM weather from
a GDL-69 on either a 430 or 430W? How do you find it on that
small display? What about getting METARs, for example -
is there too much button pushing, or not so bad? Would you make the
same purchase decision again or put the...

YES! Passed the check ride by
Kevin Clarke
Whew. Well that was a grind.
After 17 mos of training I took the check ride today. It got scrubbed a
couple of time because of weather, winds once, snow once. The day
started with a flight from KFIT down to KSFZ to meet the examiner.
Beautiful flight 24 minutes or so down to Rhode Island. Winds...

Yet more GPS substitution questions by
Peter Clark
Yet another GPS substitution question...
It's a given that you can't use GPS to shoot an approach labled "ADF
blah" unless it says "ADF or GPS blah", but how do the alternate
rules really work? The regs say that I have to have an approach that
I'm equipped for other than GPS at the alternate...

You are in IMC, when *everything* fails! Now what? by
Thomas Pappano
Hello All,
There has been much discussion here about the obvious benefits of
redundant systems, engines, vacuum, electrical etc., when flying in IMC.
We've also read NTSB reports of crashes of very well equipped planes
where the pilot did not make use of redundant instruments.
As for myself and...
