Towing glider trailers with a VW Jetta Wagon? by
Allan[_2_]
I have one and I'm seriously thinking about putting a hitch on it to
(among other things) tow glider trailers with.
Anyone out there doing it?
What hitch do you have?
Which engine? I have the 1.9 TDI, which I think has plenty of power
for it...

Region 12 Soaring Map - Help the soaring community! by
Michael Reid
All,
I have been flying with Evergreen Soaring in Seattle, Wa for the past
year but will be moving to Tehachapi, Ca for work at the end of this
month. At Evergreen I have been developing a local knowledge soaring
map using simple google map tools. The map has proven very valuable
in documenting...

US Club Class Participation by
[email protected]
In a couple earlier threads related to a proposed Club class, I asked
pilots who
don't compete now, but would if we created a Club class, to reply
either on line or to me as RC chair. I indicated I would report the
result.
The response, surprisingly, was no replys.
The element we are looking for...

BB/WSJ in the news by
Ed Byars
Congrats to BB (John Cochrane) for the lead article on the Opinion page of
the Wall Street Journal this morning!
It is a great piece but after reading it I still am in doubt as to what to
do financially. I "got out" 2000 Dow points ago (10,000) and am clueless
as to what to do now with my money...

Affordable Glider by
K Smith
O.K. now that I am getting back into gliding, I will want to purchase a
glider of my own in the not so distant future. I had a lot of fun flying a
1-26 when I was doing my solo training, and am thinking seriously about
getting one as the money flow allows. But there is that part inside me that...

Launch point logging software flight accounting by
stevehaley
Like many clubs mine blows hot and cold on using launchpoint logging
software.
At present we have a legacy system handling flight recording from
paper records taken at the launch point with a link to our accounting
system which was written by a club member who left some time ago and
the system...

Salto Tooling. by
[email protected]
After Mrs Hanle's death earlier this year I was wondering who ended up
with the production moulds and tooling for the Salto?
Any one know where it is these days?
Cheers

Soaring apps for iPhone by
kirk.stant
Just got one of these Apple gizmos and I'm curious what apps other
glider guiders are using. So far I've found some nice non-aviation
weather and mapping apps, so now I'm looking for a good NOTAM and
aviation wx brief app.
How about SPOT, XCskies, DrJack?

experimental to standard certificate by
shkdriver
Anyone ever purchase a used glider with an experimental certificate, say for example, an ASW 19b, and change to a standard certificate?
I understand that some gliders were imported and flown as experimental such as jantars, due to govermental restrictions on reciprocal airworthiness...

Glider Wheel Brakes by
[email protected]
I know, I know. BTDT. Has anyone purchased a NEW sailplane lately,
and been happy with the wheel brake? The ONLY glider I've ever flown
with a decent (not great, but decent) wheel brake is the LVVSA's G103
Twin Astir. For me, a GREAT brake will REQUIRE moderation on my part
to keep from grinding...

Ugly Glider by
Mike125
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the Slngsby T-53B
listed for sale on W&W has to be one of the homliest gliders I've ever
seen. Still outperforms the slightly less ugly 2-33 (which I'll likely
be flying soon), though.

Parachute Lanyard by
E. Douglas Whitehead
I am interested in the pros and cons of a
parachute lanyard.
My ship is an ASW-27. I am 6ft. 3in. and
the cockpit is somewhat crowded.
Thanks.

Winch launch speed versus height gain by
Neil
Ok, I could probably arrange with the winch driver to experiment, but is
there any definitive guidance on getting the greatest height off a winch
launch? (eg. Skylaunch).
i.e. if I'm "driven" at the higher end of the speed range acceptable to my
gliders placarding, will I get higher or lower...

Identifying the other guy by
Steve Leonard
Sorry to hear you ran out of Crayons, JJ. My favorite
mis-identification happend at a regionals at Lubbock.
There was a somewhat frantic call over the radio 'Watch
out, Zuni!!!'
I was flying the only Zuni at the contest. Trouble
was, my plane was on the grid and I was sitting in
my crew...

Soaring under the Bravo? by
Don Byrer
I soar at 67D, Reader-Botsford, ~22nm SW of CLE (Cleveland OH), along
the approach to CLE's rwy 06 . Our 67D field is 800'MSL; the 40/80
shelf of CLE's Class Bravo is ~2 nm NE of the field.
In the past we've easily dealt with this by towing to the S and W,
usually to 3K AGL/3800'MSL.m We also...

Rodent Deterrent? by
rlovinggood
I opened up my trailer today and found a live mouse in the cockpit.
Naturally, there was a lot of mouse poop in the cockpit and in the
trailer. I had made at least one mistake of leaving a good supply of
crackers and granola bars in the cockpit and up front in the trailer.
Little bugger had a...

Weak link - single or reserve? by
Tom Nau
Hi All,
Our commercial operation (more like a club) is starting to do winch
launches. I just bought a Tost weak link for my glider from W&W. Are
most people using a "single" weak link or a "single and a reserve"
weak link? Thanks.

hard wax application by

I've never used hard wax before, but since the factory recommends it
on the gelcoat, I'm going to give it a try. I just have no clue how to
go about it. (My Google search results are great -- for hair removal!)
I have a Makita 0-3000rpm variable speed polisher, a brick of hard
wax, and a mandrel...

Thin Airfoil and Climb Performance by

Some time ago there was a discussion about influence of (thin) airfoil on
climb performance of sailplane. I am not a regular reader of the group, so
my post is slightly delayed.
Influence of airfoil characteristics on climb performance and final
cross-country speed was the main objective studied...

Grease recommendation by

Looking for a good grease recommendation for general use around the
glider (main pins, ball fittings, etc.). Something locally available
in the US would be preferred! Anything that I should definitely stay
away from?
Thanks,
