Mode S transponder display to ATC? by
paul kgyy
Is it normal practice for a Mode S transponder to display the aircraft
tail number to ATC?
I ask because I thought it did, but recently on flight following the
controller seemed to have difficulty getting my number correct over
the radio.

Logging PIC time as student instrument pilot in IMC by
Greg Esres
I recently realized that I should not have included any "actual"
(IMC) time recorded in my logbook as PIC time while I was an
instrument student.
Why not? If you were actual, then it was PIC.
how about adding a "corrective" (new) entry?
That's what I do. Just make +/- entries to total...

FAR 91.157 Operating in icing conditions by
O. Sami Saydjari
I KNOW this is a big can of worms, but I have a specific question
relating to sub-paragraphs b.1 and b.2 of this regulation regarinding
operating in icing conditions.
It says "...no pilot may fly--
(1) Under IFR into konwn or forecast moderate icing conditions; or
(2) Under VFR into known light or...

If you feel the price is ridiculous then apparently the data has limited

Radio Call Entering Holding by
Dennis Johnson
With help from the people on this newsgroup, I'm happy to announce that I
passed my IPC!
One thing that came up on my flight was that I didn't announce that I was
entering holding and my altitude.
The 2006 AIM 5-3-3 a. 1. (f) requires reporting to ATC, whether in radar
contact or not, "The...

Where are VASIs located on a field ? by
[email protected]
Where are VASIs located on a field that doesn't have an ILS ? Is it a certain number of feet from end of runway ? Does it depend on runway length ? If you want to land on a short runway when is it safe to dip below VASI ? Must there be a certain number of hundreds of feet from the threshold...

Procedure Turn by
Bravo8500
I'm pretty sure this question has been asked, but I can't seem to find
it. My question deals with a typical approach with a procedure turn
before the FAF, could be an NDB, VOR, GPS, etc. I know what the
purposes are. 1) Provide course reversal and 2) allow altitude loss
from the arrival altitude to...

filing IFR plan for VFR flight conditions by
Paul Safran
I seem to have read or been told once that,
one can file an IFR flightplan with remark for
VFR flight conditions when not instrument rated,
or current, to get routing and practice within the system.

Obstacle Clearance Altitude / Height by
Tim
Hi,
Could anyone give me a good explanation for OCA/OCH. I know it has
something to do with the minimums of ILS-approaches and it should
always be lower than or equal to the DA/DH. I assume it provides you
with a certain obstacle clearance at DA/DH. But how is it
determined????
Best regards,
