Are UAV controllers pilots? by
Cub Driver
Well, it didn't take long for this scenario to come true.
There's a private company offering security against terrorist attack.
The nuclear plant (whatever) sets up a webcam. The company sends out
the photos to folks earning $10/hour to watch for suspicious pickup
trucks, Terrorist Cessnas, etc....

Dan Rather apologizes by

Somewhat smarmy, but welcome nevertheless:

fighter pilot hours? by
Cub Driver
I fly about 50 hours a year and wish I could do more, just to stay in
the groove.
Could I have stayed current in a jet fighter, flying about 140 hours a
year?
Thanks!

James McGovern/Earthquake McGoon: has this/his story been told in any movie? by
Cub Driver
The late Erik Shilling, who used to post regularly on this n.g., flew
for CAT along with McGovern. He had several missions into
Dienbienphu--as did another AVG Flying Tiger veteran, a ground crewman
who after his AVG hitch went back into the USAAF and became a pilot.
CAT's story (and McGovern's)...

Did we control the air over N. Viet Nam? by

Targets on the ATO were bombed. Of course we probably could
have done better if Bush were there, and Kerry had stayed longer.
Thank you for that, Billy!
I wonder if either man would be running for president today, if he had
served a normal tour on the ground, or in the air or on the water,...

What does this entry on a pilot's record mean, circa 1970?:
"crew member on flight service"
Does that mean he's current as a pilot, or something else entirely?

weight of a .50-caliber round? by

When a WWII aircraft fired off a fifty-caliber bullet from a Browning

(That would of course include the weight of the powder and shell and

Thanks!

July 17 - Wrongway Corrigan Day by

Today is the 65th Anniversary of the day Doug Corrigan flew his plane,
Sunshine, to Ireland, July 17, 1938. He was trying to return home to
LA, but faulty compasses misled him. Kinda like how ADA regulars are
misleading everybody on twa 800.
Corrigan was one of the heroes of my boyhood....

It was published only in March. Two years is more like it, and most
