...and the hours keep building.. by
JIM105
The OTHER Kevin said
I'm kinda hoping we can fly over to my kid's school and circle
overhead while they're at recess.
My kids got so tired of it, I don't really do it much anymore! Of course my
wifes (and mine to if I have to admit it) dog runs and goes crazy every time he
hears a helicopter. ...

Fifth U.S. chopper in 18 days goes down by
Brien
Four U.S. helicopters -- three military and one civilian -- were shot down
in Iraq between January 20 and Friday, raising concerns that insurgents are
becoming more proficient at downing the aircraft. Sixteen U.S. troops were
killed in the three military chopper crashes.

Power needed for slow SAL vs hover... by
Nick
Is it true that a helicopter requires less power for slow straight and level
flight than for hovering? If so, anyone know any figures for say an
R22?......or even hazard a guess?
Cheers

Balancing act revisited. by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
In a previous post I had problems balancing my tail rotor on my Baby Belle
helicopter and received a lot of feedback on possible causes. I've since
got the bugger balanced and discovered a few things about both mechanical
vibrations and some characteristics of my ship. In the process I found...

Another 1.3 on the books.. by

The OTHER Kevin said
I initially I thought I was ok, but as the day went on, my neck began
to stiffen up and started to ache.
Better get used to a stiff neck. The longer you fly helicopters, the worse it
is for your back and neck. Ergonomics is a foreign word for most helicopter
seat...

Over another hurdle? by
Steve R.
Hi Kevin,
Great write up as usual! :-)
Glad to hear the approaches are getting better. Knew it would come though,
it was only a matter of time. That's got to be some kind of rush when it
finally all comes together. Congratulations!
Your first experience with settling with power sounds fun! ...

disk loading by
Roopah Vi Tam
Hi there!
I am looking for a list or a library of Disk Loadings and Power Loadings for
some rotating-Wing Aircrafts (especially VTOLs). I have found some peculiar
data on V22 Osprey (different DL in a site and in a book??), so I wnted to
make sure...
I need them for a research (comparisons...

One hour closer.... by
Kathryn & Stuart Fields
Kevin: If it makes you feel any better, Mike Zemlock, CFI, plus an examiner
with scads of hours, told me that people are surprised to learn that
hovering is NOT the hardest thing to learn. It is a normal approach!!. I
thought that I would never get it and I had been flying my Safari for a...

Gyrocopters on Ebay by
Red
I've been looking for a gyroplane ready to fly. I've seen a few
offered on eBay, went to look at them and they we rarely described
correctly. I've seen one on ebay that's in California and it has a
good description, good pictures and so on, but that's quite a drive to
go see it before bidding. I...

Time logging question... by

Although you will have "turbine" time, employers are looking for
turbine time inan aircraft that can carry people/long line..etc. That
you are getting the experiance of working the helicopter.
If you and someone else had the same hours, and turbine time, but he
had it in a 206 or a 500, I bet I...

it deals almost exclusively with civilian rotorcraft. Is there a Usenet

"W" is JFK's son and Bush revenge killed Kennedy in 1963 by

JFK gave Barbara Pierce a lesson in life in the summer of 1944 (making
her a "Cape Cod heiress"), and to her eventual husband, JFK gave a
personal motive for revenge. Perhaps if George and Barb had announced
their earlier engagement or even if George had given Barb a diamond

Hey Kevin,
Thanks for another great write up. Man, you're sure bringing back memories

completely understood. ;-) Just remember, you "might" have another hour or
so of marginal flying and then that day will arrive when it...

Have you ever seen/made such a flying handcraft? by
Qingpei Hu
Hi, Dear All,
I have alwaying been thinking to make a light, tiny, paper(or some
other light material) butterfly, that could fly with flapping his
wings by some mechanical power engine(like clockwork spring or elasic,
or else).
While I was a child, I liked playing paper-plane very much. I...
