Indiana-OSH by
Service Stemme
Hallo, is anybody leaving Indiana (Indianapolis area) to go to Oshkosh July
27 or 28, (and return at the weekend)?
I've been an EAA member for 4 years now and since I live in Germany could
never make it to our "family convention". So if you have an empty seat in
your car or even your plane ;-) and...

NW EAA Fly-In by
RDR
We will be flying from Calgary to KAWO for the EAA fly-in for the fifth year
and would like to see some interesting sites around Washington, Oregon and
Montana. We've been to McMinville and the Spruce Goose Museum as well as
the blimp hangar and Museum at Tillemook.
The Boeing plant will likely be...

Jim Weir or other qualified persons: a tangent on the 2 radio 1 antennathread by
Dave S
Something about the thread, regarding transmitting power from one radio
being funnelled into the other radio made me take pause. In the Houston
area (and I'm sure most other major cities) there is an antenna farm
that has a collection of FM, AM and TV broadcast antennae. I would
estimate there are...

BD5 question by
Stealth Pilot
was the undercarriage design for the BD5 a competent design?
I know all about the deficiencies in the 5 (I even still got the info
pack :-) ) but in all the kerfuffel I've never heard a single bad word
about Jim's undercarriage design.
The design buzzing around in my head at the moment would work...

Pilot Error? Is it Mr. Damron? by
Badwater Bill
C.D. Damron writes:
For example, if I build a plane that is impossible to fly or a
helicopter that cannot be auto-rotated, it is still very possible that
an accident report could conclude that I was at fault for not avoiding
a stall or not successfully performing an auto-rotation. Why?
Because...

Weight and Balance by
Dale Larsen
The local FSDO has this form they want submitted before scheduling an
inspection. It asks for (1) "Net empty C.G. range" and (2) "Loaded C.G.
limits".
Now I know that my C.G. has to fall within 15-28% of chord, and I can easily
figure that out. It works out to 77.95 to 84.84 inches aft of datum....

Is anyone out there designing a scale PBY Catalina? by
Tom Osmundson
I was wondering if anyone else was designing (or maybe even progressed
to building) a homebuilt aircraft based on the PBY Catalina? The
reason I ask is that I have been thinking of designing one for some
time. Now that I have 1 year to go before finishing my BS in ME, I
have decided to begin...

OSH.. Basler question. by
Dave S
Ok.. I made it to Osh 2002, and missed Osh 2003.
I am not CERTAIN but isnt this the first year in a long time that Basler
is not the sole FBO on field, or was Orion there last year too?
I will be missing this years OSH as well, but the point of all this is I
just got my red prop tag in the mail...

Hawks/Miller HM-1 by
Ken Balch
Hi,
I'm looking for leads to any information on Frank Hawks' Golden Age
racing airplane, 'Time Flies'. This plane was designed by Howell Miller
and built by the Granville Brothers crew after the company was
liquidated in the mid-1930's. The plane was damaged in a landing
accident and later...

Flightworks Capella Plans by
rj
Flightworks appears to have gone out of business. I have spent a
great deal of time searching the web and can't find a trace of them.
I have a Capella, 2-place, trigear, Rotax 582 powered, and of about a
1990 vintage. I need a copy of the construction manual. Not the
drawings. Just the pages...

Cessna buyers in So. Cal. beware ! by
Bill Berle
This is a very lengthy but worth reading post. For the purposes of
possibly saving someone's life or at least preventing serious injury
to their wallets, I am posting below the text of an e-mail I sent
recently to someone who had advertised a Cessna in the San Diego area.
I was looking for a super...

Engine update, good and bad news by
nauga
The bad news: There was a welded repair on
the #2 cylinder, right next to the intake
valve. Looks like the stress around the repair
warped either the valve stem or the valve
guide. There was no scoring on the cylinder
walls and the rings were intact, and it was
apparent that oil was coming in...
