starting out with BLIPmaps and soaring predictions by
brianDG303[_2_]
I have a few hours into studying the subject and there is an awful lot
of information, much of it in contradiction. I'm currently reading
through all the articles linked to Dr. Jack and spent some time on
Skew T although I have a hard time putting a lot of value on skew T as
it's based on soundings...

Starting SeeYou by
Tony[_5_]
I have been having a lot of trouble lately getting SeeYou to boot up on my computer. Naviter suggested I disable antivirus and try using SeeYou Cloud. They like to suggest the cloud. I prefer that the actual software just work, but I feel I am getting old fashioned.
Has anyone else had trouble...

Starting them young into soaring !!! by
Glider Pilot
Last Sunday I did a few commercial glider rides for FBO at Mt. Valley Airport in Tehachapi California. One of the rides was the 10 year old daughter of Bryan Suits. Bryan Suits is an American war veteran of three military conflicts in Kuwait, Bosnia, and Iraq. And has been a talk radio host for...

State and National records question by
Gary Emerson
I know I've seen this before, but can't find it. Somewhere there is a
document that states by what amount a State or National record must be
exceeded by to set a new record.
Anyone know where that might be?
Thanks
Gary

State Record Rules Question by
Gary Emerson
The rules for World records prohibit claiming more than one distance and
one speed task for a flight. I've heard that this may apply to U.S.
records as well as State records as well. These particular categories
are not a part of Section 3.
A quick check of the SSA website doesn't bring up a link...

state tax question by
Del Jensen
You guys are probably tired of these kinds of questions, but I have been searching the web and haven't found the answer to my situation.
I recently purchased a glider in AZ, where I intend to keep it and fly it. I am a Utah resident, and the bill of sale and FAA registration so indicate.
My...

State-of-the-art soaring forecasts by
Jack Glendening[_2_]
For those who missed the announcement I made last year, high
resolution -- 1.3 to 12 km -- soaring weather forecasts can be
produced for your region if you have a motivated/capable volunteer to
run the (free) RASP program I have created. This is much finer
resolution than is available from the US...

Static Line Parachutes by
GM
Hi all in US glider land,
does anybody know if there are static line parachutes available in the
US? They are pretty common in Europe but I have not seen them here. Is
anyone using them over here?

Static line vs. hand deploy by
Nicholas Kennedy
Gents
After Dave Nadlers deployment where he got knocked out and he deployed about 1 sec above the ground, I'm seriously considering a static line added to my 'chute.
Any good reasons not too?
I realize you have to remember to hook it up and disconnect it after flight, and if you bailed under a...

Static ports by
Grider Pirate
My glider, a Speed Astir, has static ports about halfway from the
trailing edge of the wing and the stabilizer. It also has some static
ports just ahead of the fattest part of the fuselage. The forward ports
have never been connected to anything since I got it. Do the front
ports typically NOT...

Static ports and Irving TE probes by
Jim[_33_]
I am trying to understand how TE probes are connected. I've searched the literature but apparently have not found the description I'm looking for.
Are the fuselage static ports connected (used in any way ) in an Irving TE probe is installed?

Static system solution by
Mark628CA
While replumbing my glider's static system, I got frustrated chasing down leaks in the myriad Tee connectors and joints. With the ASI, Altimeter, Transponder encoder and Cambridge 302 all on the system with two forward and two aft static ports, there were over thirty potential leak points. I did a...

Static Wing Load Testing of Old Wooden Glider Wings by
LongJourney
I'm restoring a 1963 Std Austria and trying to decide the risks and merits of load testing the wings. I can't find anything definitive on the web, at least nothing that doesn't get contradicted by some other source.
My concern is that load testing may damage the wings in an undetected way. OTOH,...

Statistics on Post - Soaring into the future - high interest by
DNewill
I was glad to see the significant interest in the subject -
So far in 3 days, 50 posts by 17 contributers! What a neat subject for a
convention meeting where there would be pizza, beer, cokes, white boards and
note pads. - Invite the current OEM's and the want-to-be's and let them
listen to the...

Status PowerFLARM for USA by

We are well aware that we have stressed the patience of our fellow
pilots with repeated delays and would like to apologize for this.
Here's the status as of Monday 16-May-2011.
First, the good news. The portable PowerFLARM is shipping to GA pilots
in Europe, with close to 500 already delivered,...
