Aerodynamic Simulation of Standard Cirrus Glider by
Jim Hendrix
Stefan Melber, et. al., have just published an aerodynamic simulation of a
Standard Cirrus glider. It's a scholarly work and will not be understood by
most of us, but the pictures are informative and worth taking a look at.
You will find a link to it at www.standardcirrus.org. It's a 1.2 MB...

York (Ontario, Canada) Soaring web site down by
Tony Verhulst
York Soaring has an excellent "what is soaring" on their web site.
Unfortunately, the web site, http://www.yorksoaring.com/, has been out
of action for a few weeks. Does any one know when (or if) it will be
back up - or if there's al alternate URL?
thanx
Tony V.

WTB: EDO-AIRE RT-551 for receive only - U.S. by
Mark Zivley
Looking for a working Edo Aire RT-551 to go in our club's winch. I know
it's not legal for transmit, but this is a receive only application and
we already have the holder nicely mounted so just swapping the radio
would be easiest. If you've got one that works that you're not using,
please drop me...

Update on Minden tradegy by
David Bingham
The remains of the Carat Motorglider have been placed
in its trailer and are awaiting the investigation by the NTSB
at Minden Airport.
I spoke to Larry Mansberger about the possibility of a wing
failure similar to those experienced by the Duo Discus and
the Discus CS a year or so ago. For those of...

JSW Glide Calculator by
snaproll59
Does anybody have a clue where I could get a "Whiz Wheel" for a
Standard Class (ASW 19)? I can't believe that everybody has absolute
faith in the reliability of their electronic glide computers. Last
week my computer lost its 3-D GPS fix and I was forced to use my
wits...not a very useful tool. ...

Crashing a '12 by
Mark Grubb
The 12 has a composite Glass - Balsa - Glass Fuselage
that is probably at least 0.75 inches thick. It is
a very, very sturdy structure.
The 12 would probably be airworthy with either the
glass alone or the wood alone. Laminated together,
it is a tank.

Friends:
I have submitted a recap of the October SSA Director's meeting

some errors, but basically reflect the business of the meeting.
Formal minutes will go up on SSA's site when they become available.
But meanwhile, you can...

XC/racing oriented soaring club near St Louis by
Kirk Stant
I'm relocating to St Louis this winter and need to pick a local
soaring club to fly with - any recommendations? I have my own glider,
and enjoy XC, racing, and OLC, so I'm less concerned with availability
of training/gliders but want to join a fun club (read: beer drinkers
with a gliding...

US:Restricted Towplanes by
Judy Ruprecht
As many soaring operators have learned in recent months,
current FAA policy allows existing Restricted Category
tow planes to remain in service, but any newly-acquired
tow plane must be certificated in Normal category.
THIS APPLIES TO MANY/MOST PAWNEES!!
In the Federal Register of November 2,...

Wanted an American to bid for me on Ebay by
goneill
A number of companies in USA point blank refuse to deal with anyone
outside the US and require a person in the states to bid and pay for any
items .
I am trying to get some used avionics to equip my ASW20 at a slightly
better price than is available here locally.
