Famous predecessor! by
Bruce
Again quoting John Campbell.
Well, there you go. What is "soaring", who did it first? How do you
distinguish it from gliding, was it an accident, was it a step on the way to
developing air transportation, was it well documented and so on...? The
"centenary of flight" hoopla centered on Dec....

LaunchPoint 2000 ? by
Dave Boulter
Hi,
I was using this for my logbook. It comes from the UK. I just changed
laptops and I kept the dat file but need a registration key. The website
www.launchpoint2000.com or similar seems to be down and they dont seem to
advertise in Sailplane and Gliding anymore.
Any thoughts?

Help! by
Nyal Williams
A few weeks ago there was an extended discussion on improving launch
efficiency. There were suggestions about dropping the tow rope, having
another ready with a glider staged, spot marks for the tow plane and
glider, etc. Mention was made of a particular soaring site that was
especially good at...

Off Topic... email software by
Gary Emerson
I've been clinging to Netscape as my mail program for some time now although I
know it's just not going to last forever with no support, etc.. Any of the
computer savvy glider pilots know of any other free or inexpensive mail software
that also has the capability to download the newsgroups inside...

ELT's for 1-26 Association Championships? by
Frank Whiteley
Nothing on 1-26 list archives. Anyone comment on whether the 1-26
championships (SSA sanctioned I presume) will require ELT's for 2006?
Though they appear to race under their own division rules, I can't
determine from what's available online whether ELT's only apply to FAI
and Sports classes at...

2006 OLC early leader by
Bill Daniels
If you haven't noticed, the 2006 OLC season is already underway. Tom Knauff
and the Ridge Soaring Irregulars have taken an early lead in the
international club standings. I'm guessing they plan to keep it if they
can. The rest of you guys need to get going.

Ground-based GPS tracking by
Ken Kochanski (KK)
The animalplanet aired a sequence last night using Tilly the Golden
Eagle to search for a hiker in a rugged mountainous area ... I think
the diameter was 5 miles. Rather then carrying a real-time camera,
Tilly had a GPS unit that was sending "real-time" lat/lon/altitude info
that was being mapped...

OLC 2006 by
Howard Banks
Yes, Albuquerque Soaring was first in the US for the
second year
in a row (and third in the world club rankings in 2005,
one place
better than the year before). And yes, the ridge bashers
are off
to a flying start -- but then we like to give them
a bit of a start.
Just for encouragement.
And yes I...

Good news! I talked to AC Williams (the former owner of SW Soaring.

that he was feeling well now, and has stopped having to undergo chemo 4
months ago. He is getting his hair back now, and is even considering
