Change in AIM wording concerning procedure turn by
Kris Kortokrax
While posting changes in my Jepp book last night, I came across the
following change to the AIM.
Kris
Old text

perform a course reversal to establish the aircraft inbound on an

Changes to Aircraft Approach Categories?! by
skyliner
I've been away from this newsgroup for quite some time, so forgive me if
this has already been covered.
The other day, one of my colleagues pointed out something I hadn't noticed
in the latest set of approach plates, which came out at the end of December.
Its on page A2, under "Aircraft Approach...

Changing course to do sightseeing - practical (with clearance) when IFR? by
Mitchell Gossman
Flying one of the kids on an IFR flight plan with decent VMC, she
asked to circle some landmarks in Minneapolis/St. Paul Class B. I
found myself saying "cancel IFR, request clearance to remain in class
B with traffic advisories for some sightseeing". No problem, I
remained on same squawk with the...

chart geeks and old time central pennsylvanians by
Ron Natalie
Ok, here's something I noticed running up to State College
yesterday. about 20 miles south of State College there's
a class E transition area with no airport in the middle of
it (there's Stottle Mem 02P, I think that's a hospital
helipad on the edge of it, but I don't think that's the
reason for...

chart heads-up by
Jose
To get back into practice I fired up MSFS 2002 and grabbed a random (out
of date) chart to fly. It was the Bangor BGR ILS 33 approach (amdt 10B
03079, regular NOAA chart). So I gave the chart a quick glance, set up
the nav frequencies as listed in the chart, and went flying. It took a
few...

Chart subscriptions by
Dave Anderer
Any suggestions for a good internet-available, good service,
well-priced chart subscription service?
I've used vrotate.com for individual chart purchases. Good price and
service, but the site is - well - less than I might hope for. No
support for subscriptions (that is evidently done via...

Charted Visual Flight Procedures by
Scott Draper
An airline pilot of my acquaintance related about accepting a charted
visual flight procedure into Reno, part of which involves intercepting
a localizer course. He said they were IMC at the time.
My understanding is that the aircraft must reporting seeing a landmark
or preceding aircraft before...

Cheap IFR GPS (M3 approach ?) advice by
Martin Kosina
Hi all,
I am toying with the idea of installing a "cheap" IFR GPS in my '76
Cardinal. Being admittedly a bottom-feeder in this area, my choices
are basically limited to a used KLN89B, or the Northstar M3 Approach,
something like a $1500 setup total.
I don't think an avionics shop would touch...

cheapest in cockpit weather? by
dlevy
I used to have Cheap *******s software and a palm. While not perfect it was
much better than nothing.
Is there anything available now that is even remotely similar? I can't
justify thousands of dollars but I might be able to purchase some sort of
palm type thing if I can also use it for work. I...

Cheating the ILS by
[email protected]
Hello,
The other day, I was flyng the ILS into Stockton CA. Just for yuks,
I set the GPS
( GNS430 ) to the approach - with the warning that it was for
situational awareness
and entertainment only :). Naturally, the indicator was set to
VOR/LOC.
Sliding down the approach, I had the...

Checkride - Passed, but the bubble did burst a bit by
Matt Young
Well, I passed by instrument checkride recently and thought I would
share my experiences. Started off the day with a flight from Fort
Smith, AR (FSM) where I generally fly out of down to Hot Springs (HOT)
where the examiner was. Started out as you might expect, paperwork,
going over the logs,...

Chelton EFIS: any PIREPS? by
Kai Glaesner
Hello community,
after downloading several *.pdf's from the Chelton side (being inspired
by AOPA's Commander ;-) and browsing thru them, it seems that there are
some features in this box that set it apart from the competition, e.g.
terrain display, "higway-in-the-sky" pointers, etc.
Are there any...

Chicago VFR throughway by
Stuart King
Chicagoans...please advise ...
What about flying from North to South along the shore.
Then cross between Midway and O'Hare at 1500MSL.
Then continue south, after flipping the bird to Mayor Dick Daley.
Is this the way, or is there something like the Hudson river VFR corridor ?
