How 'bout a thread on the F-22 with no mud slinging, no axe grinding, no emotional diatribes, and just s by EB Jet
Would this arangement have been as useful for WVR dogfighting? I thought the F-22s scheme for the IR missles was supposed to be one of its biggest advantages. I believe it would be fine, the thought being perhaps to get the seeker head on the AIM-9 exposed to an IR source..I'm not sure which...

Stupid question about flight testing and "the envelope" by Scott Ferrin
In this month's "Combat Aircraft" there is an article on the F-22 and in it one of the people invloved in flight testing says "Flying at the edge of the envelope pushes this aircraft harder than any operational F/A-22 will ever be pushed." Is that hyperbole? There are instances in the past where...

For those of us who love those NASA F-104's, the current issue of Wings (Feb.2004) has a great spread on them. Lots of color shots of the JF-104A as well as the F-104N's. I recommend picking up a copy, you won't be disappointed. Now, where did I put that Hasegawa kit.... Tony

Air Commodore William Henry 'Bull' Garing (Rtd), CBE, DFC, DSC died on New Years Day. by L'acrobat
Group Captain Bill Garing was nicknamed "Bull" for his voice, not his size. He was a small powerfully built man, from Corryong, Victoria, whose abilities resulted in his being one of the most highly qualified airmen in the RAAF. Garing won the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) in July 1940, when he...

In the book "Mig-Pilot" The ghost author writes that Mig's were Scrambled to intercept Sr-71's that flew just outside of Soviet Airspace in the mid 1970's. The Blackbird's allegedly would "scoop up to altitudes that the Mig-25's couldn't reach or dash off at speeds the Mig-25's couldn't match"...

How 'bout a thread on the F-22 with no mud slinging, no axe grinding, no emotional diatribes, and just some clear, objective discussion? by Scott Ferrin
The things I'd be most interested in a 1. Was the YF-22/YF-23 a fair flyoff or was it a case of Northop designing what the air force asked for and Lockheed giving them what they really wanted? How much of the decision was based on the capabilities of the aircraft and how much on the track...

Suitability of Proven Technologies for Defending Against Airborne Terrorism by Yossarian
I'm curious why barrage balloon techniques aren't being utilized to protect against terror attacks from the air. A well-engineered network of modern balloons should improve the likelihood of diverting all but the largest commercial aircraft from U.S. point targets vice an Avenger salvo, and...
