...and the #1 stupid Dallas city ordinance is: by Dallas
CHAPTER 5 AIRCRAFT AND AIRPORTS SEC. 5-11. USE OF HYDROPLANES ON CITY PROPERTY. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a hydroplane upon any reservoir or any lake belonging to under control of the city. (Ord. Nos. 8213; 14384) Presumably because they're Hydro "planes". --

VOR ranges on sectionals by Mxsmanic
I was pretty sure that there was something on sectional charts that allows you to determine the service range of a given VOR, but looking at the guide to aeronautical charts I don't see anything that indicates VOR range in the legend. Am I missing something or am I just not remembering things...

Lowrance 2000C ??? by Dave[_5_]
I have a couple of questions regarding the 2000C: 1. What are the mounting options? I have never liked yoke mounts. 2. Will it work with a non-Lowrance amplified external antenna (I have a permanent unit on top of the fuselage that has worked flawlessly with my Garmin). Thanks in advance for any...

Another of our favorite authors and mentors has gone west. Robert Buck now walks along side Bill Kershner as together they watch over us. Like Kershner, Buck's worldly wisdom will live on for the benefit of generations of future pilots. Jim WEATHER PIONEER ROBERT N. BUCK DIES AT 93 Famed weather...

What makes a successful aviator? by Bob Moore
Some excerpts from an interesting series of posts over on rec.aviation.military.naval. "...better shot for a pilot slot by getting his BS in aeronautical engineering...." "An engineering degree would have no bearing on selection for flight training."

Trip from F70 to L00 Thoughts? by Mike 'Flyin'8'
I am planning a short hop from F70 to L00 via KSBD at 7500. L00 is 16 miles west of Edwards AFB and just on the hairy edge of the Isabelle MOA. However, I think I am safe since the MOA is not active on Saturday, and it look like L00 is under a ring that is clear of the MOA up to 1500AGL. Other...

JFK ATIS: Strange???? by RST Engineering
With four hours to kill at JFK waiting to get back to SMF, I thought I'd listen to JFK ATIS. The second to last sentence has me somewhat puzzled. "...aircraft are requested to use the assigned runway for noise abatement. Advise the controller on initial contact that you have information...

Beer, "God had told him to crash the airplane," and other odd tales. by Jim Logajan
Beer makes for some unusual tales - at least that is what I found when I used that single keyword in a search of the NTSB accident database - though I expanded the search back to 1-1-1962 which yielded some of the more, um, interesting tales. 68 records contain the word "beer" - yet no matches...
