Max Cleland is CBS source for memogate by Bob Coe
Here's the latest: Bill Burkett says he faxed the memos to Max Cleland to use in the campaign against Bush. Cleland then gave them to Kerry people, but it appears they didn't want anything to do with it, and he then turned to fellow Texans Dan Rather and Bob Schiefer to handle the...

WWII 20mm cannon in planes by zxcv
It seems to me that the Germans and Japanese had a lot more cannon in their planes than the Americans who seemed to rely almost totally on .50 machine guns. Why was that? What was the rate of fire or the 20mm cannons and what type of projectiles did they fire?

Airspeed of military planes by Tetsuji Rai
Airspeed limitation below 10000ft is usually 250kts unless you have been authorized by the Administrator. However I guess it's a bit slow for military fighters. So I am curious how fast military fighters fly in the real world. I guess it's very dangerous military aircraft fly much fast among...

Change the rules for the National Guard.? by ArtKramr
How about we fix it so that in case of national emergency the guard goes FIRST before the regular troops. Great idea huh? Think we would still get everyone flocking to the National Guard in that case? I know Bush would have been first in line to join up.. Right? Arthur Kramer 344th BG 494th...

Punctured pressure cabin. by M. J. Powell
There has been a bit of a furore over here concerning the new US requirement to airlines to supply air marshals when requested. The concern is mainly over the possible puncture of a pressure cabin. What do readers think is the result of decompression via a bullet hole? Mike -- M.J.Powell

US kill loss ratio versus Russian pilots in Korean War? by Rats
US F86 sabres shot down a lot of Mig 15s in the Korean War. The ratio was around 8 - 1. I recently watched a documentary about the confrontation between these two planes. Apparently they were quite evenly matched with the F86 having a slight overall advantage. In the end the high ratio...

F-32 vs F-35 by The Raven
We all know that the X-35 won the JSF contest which is now in the strategic development phase as the F-35. At the time the competition winner was announced (LM) I wondered why Boeing would scrap their whole concept rather than push forward with it. For various political reasons Boeing could have...

F4U inverted gull wings by Bob M.
I recently visited the Udvar-Hazy facility and received the usual story about how the Corsair got its inverted gull wings, i.e. to accomodate the 13 ft. prop which, in turn, was necesitated by the engines power. However, the Hellcat used essentially the same engine, and IIRC also used a 13 ft....
