Gliding Club Experiences by
Patrick
Hello Gliders,
I wanted to make this post to see other pilots experiences at their local gliding clubs. My experience at my local gliding club is so-so, speaking as a young soon to be solo pilot, because of organisational management.
My friend and I have been quite frustrated due to extreme...

Anyone had a winch drum failure? by
Bret Hess
We're making a new winch drum. The flanges on our drum bent out a little when moving from steel to Spectra line.
I'd like to know the dimensions and structure of any drums/flanges that have failed, or shown signs of failing, and with what length and type of line. Please pass this on to anyone...

Pilots vs mechanics...enjoy by
[email protected]
Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one:
After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a gripe sheet, which tells mechanics about
problems with the aircraft.
The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on...

Paragliding task score software by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'd like to write a small programm (online) to evaluate our paragliding competitions. We usually set a couple of turnpoints with a radius of 400 meters and the aim is to pass all these one by one and fly to the target cylinder, the finish. Just to get an idea how it looks like, I made a small...

Repairing CAI-302 by
Dan Marotta
Today the needle fell off its perch in my CAI-302. It looks like a simple
drop or two of super glue would set the world straight.
Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the glass to replace the needle
without violating the seal on the unit? I've got it out of the panel and
will ship it...

Today's Name That Glider contest by
Steve Leonard
My vote is LS-3a. On the 3, the leading edge of the
horizontal is well in front of the leading edge of
the horizontal. On this one, they are nearly coincident,
as they are on the 3a.
The wing is a single taper, with a curled down tip.
I don't think it is an optical illusion. It also
has the...

Grob wing retainer bearings by
Tim
The aft wing locks on my Grob G102 are just about at their limits and it
looks like I will be installing oversize bearings to correct this. Does
anyone have experience doing this and if so, how difficult of a job is it?

Handicap bargains by
Ian Cant
I notice that a Schweizer 2-32 with a published L/D
of 33 is handicapped at 1.500. This seems like a great
bargain, the same as a Falke SF-25C at 1.500 but with
only about 22 L/D. Are there other equally great deals
out there ? Or any outstandingly heavily handicapped
types ?

Did the impossible in my glider last night!!! by
Bruno
Wish there was room for what you were all thinking... ;)
I pulled the water bags out of my ASW-20B to inspect them for the
first time and I was just curious what they even looked like. To my
horror I saw that the string on my second wing was broken. The end of
the world! I decided to pull the...

obscure reference to soaring in a movie by
[email protected]
The movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" includes no soaring
and no gliders, but in one scene there is a _picture_ of a sailplane
hanging on the wall.

Can anyone identify the sailplane from the picture? It's white,...

another question for you USA FAR experts: tetrahedrons by
[email protected]
Is the tetrahedron at an airport:
1) Supposed to be pinned down to show active runway
2) Allowed to be pinned down to show active runway
3) Supposed to pivot freely with the wind direction
(Background: our club has a long-standing policy to anchor the
tetrahedron. Some of us are really scratching...
