Left Mag Dead... After Annual??? by three-eight-hotel
So I just got out of a $1900 annual, and stopped by, on Friday, to gas the plane up for a flight to happen this week... I tried to start the plane up (Cessna 172), and it never as much as sputtered. The battery was well charged and it turned over, and over, and over, and over... Never fired...

AnywhereMap XM-WX System on ebay. by Guy Byars
My father is selling his Anywheremap XM-WX system on ebay. It worked fine, but he could never get the hang of the Windows Pocket PC based PDA. It is complete, like new, in perfect condition: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4618553445 A system description can be...

Landing light options by Ronnie
My 1976 Cessna 172M uses a PAR 46 size GE4537 lamp for the landing light (12V, 100W). It is mounted in the lower cowling under the prop and does not last very long. I suppose the vibration of the engine kills the life of the bulb. I sure wished Cessna had designed this landing light installation...

5100 more!? by Jim Burns
http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/586-full.html#191678 I received my "good morning" this morning courtesy of Avweb. Lycoming has decided that "they" should "retire" another 5100 crankshafts that were made between 1997 and 2002. While not an AD and not mandatory, the Service Bulletin...

JPI EGT probe failure typical signs by Robert M. Gary
My #3 EGT usually works just fine but every once in a while it will jump up to an unreasonable number or even just report "OPEN PROBE" on the screen. It may do this for several minutes and then just come back and work just fine. JPI says to first swap it with another (#1 EGT) and see if its the...

Need help with fuel guage please! by Dave
OK...a 1976 PA 28 151.. After a few minutes of running, the port guage will start to fall towards E. It is showing 3/4 now (fuel at tabs), and will sag to 1/4 within about 15 min, while I am operating on the starboard (other) tank. Shut down for a few hours, guage resumes normal (correct)...

Budget Retracts - Anyone own a Sierra or Comanche 180? by RH
I'm a PVT, IFR pilot, but fairly low time at 350 hours, mostly in various fixed gear PA28's. I'm interested in buying an entry level retractable. I'd like to use it to get my commercial certificate, and maybe go on to my CFI/CFII. But the primary mission would be to haul my wife, 1 year old son...

lighting for fuel gage, oil gages, etc. on 172N by scott moore
Hi, I have lit my entire panel, via a combination of "nu-lites" and instrument replacements of instruments that were internally lit. I am quite happy with the result, but I still have dark fuel, oil pressure and temp gages, and the ammeter on my Cessna 172N. I have searched the web quite a bit, I...

Cherokee 180 soft brake - causes? by Nathan Young
I have a 1971 Piper Cherokee 180. I changed the oil earlier this week, and then taxiied around the airport as part of my runup check. During this process, I noticed that upon first application - the right brake is soft. Pumping the brake pedal gets the pressure back, and then it works ok. ...

Mystery Vibration - 74 Cherokee 140 by Mike Spera
Well, I finally have one. The weird vibration out of nowhere. About 6-7 flights ago, i noticed a very slight rhythmic vibration during a smooth straight and level flight. About 4-5 seconds of smooth flight and then 2-3 seconds of vibration. I chalked it up to the air conditions. Over the years, I...

Sticking yoke by soxinbox
When doing steep turns, I noticed that there is a little resistance to pitch changes on the yoke. It seems it binds a little in the bearing through the panel. Does anyone have a suggestion for the type of lubricant I could use on this? Do they make anything for this purpose?

Aero Advantage Dual Pump by rdant
Am I the only one that still has the Aero Advantage Dual Pump installed? I see that the AD to remove the pump has finally arrived: http://dmses.dot.gov/docimages/p84/385862.pdf This is a stupid AD, in my opinion. The reason for the AD is that both chambers might fail at the same time. But, how is...
