ELT antenna -- Pitts by Al MacDonald
Greetings, I recently added an ICOM A200 to my Pitts S-1C. The previous owner had an ACK ELT installed just behind the seat with the antenna on the belly skin. I originally thought this wasn't a good place for the antenna as a relatively high speed dirt encounter would most likely take out the...

Deck height by Sean Trost
Hi all ! What would be a problem if any with rebuilding a lycoming case with a deck height out of spec. As a matter of fact How does one measure a deck ? I am assuming that the deck is where the cyl barrel is bolted down to. If so then I would assume that haveing a slightly smaller height would in...

Goodyear Brake Pucks - Cheap! by Ron Wanttaja
Back about thirty years or so, Cleveland wheels and brakes became popular replacements for the Goodyear systems on planes like older Cessna 172s. These used wheel and brake sets often ended up on the homebuilt market. My own Fly Baby has one of these units. About a year and a half ago,...

Jabiru and Rotax engines by Marco Rispoli
I am doing some research into ultralight engines (planning to build one). The Rotax 912S and the Jabiru 3300 are the models i am looking into. Does anyone know how much it costs to maintain them? I just need very generic examples to get an idea. How much does it cost to overhaul them (one or the...

Yee-ha! by Bushy
Did it today! After 12 years of watching the sky and dreaming, I finally had my first fly since buying the farm. (Wonder if anyone can guess why I stopped flying?) 2 hours 20 minutes of shear joy in two lessons, flew over my farm for the first time and flew a taildragger to boot! I know some of...

How About Derating an O-320H2AD to 150 HP? by jls
Anybody done that? It's a 160 HP engine but all we need is 150, or even 140, as in E2D. So we want to derate it to that. OTOH, it has a bum reputation which has been restored to respect somewhat by various fixes and is, I understand, capable of providing a good oil supply to the valve...

Free Volksplane to good home, located in Chino Hills CA by Bryan Zinn
I have an aircraft in my possession which I am interested in donating to a good home. Tax write off would be nice, but it isn't critical. Taker would need to pick the aircraft up in Chino Hills CA. Wings and tailplane are currently removed, so it would easily fit onto a flatbed. The plane is in...

Hydroforming shops by GaryP
Does anyone know of a hydroforming shop willing to do small batches of aluminum parts at a reasonable price? I need about 10 copies of 4 different parts with a 3/8" draw made out of 0.040 2024-0 and a maximum length of 40". Too tedious to do by hand and achieve uniform results. Any suggestions...
